I bought a car from a dealer at the end of January (non retro Nissan) and still haven't received my new V5c. Is this a normal waiting waiting time at the moment or do I just have to apply for a new one? As this process involves two of the most inefficient organisations in Britain- the DVLA and Royal Mail. should I assume it's got lost in limbo somewhere at this stage?
How long are other forum users waiting currently?

The last two times I've done changes on the V5 through Post Office counters, it's taken 4 weeks to get back to me.

Obviously everyone's experience is different but I've never had a problem with either of them. I use Royal Mail a lot for small/medium parcels, have done for years. The new(ish) Click & Drop service is great order & pay online and they collect the next day with a pre-printed label Last time I used the DVLA for a change of V5C it was back in days.

Have you checked the registration on the gov.uk website to see when the last V5 was issued? Brian.

Didn't about that site, I've just checked and my new form was issued a week ago. (still a long time after the sale though)
*UPDATE!*
On a related note I've just had a speeding fine notice for my old car that the same dealer took in part exchange. Obviously I've passed their details on to the plod but the DVLA is still showing the V5c last issued in Aug '22 That car was on their website but isn't now so it must have been sold, presumably to the person who was speeding.
This leaves me with two possibilities:-
1. The dealer is really curse word with their admin regarding change of ownership, or
2. The DVLA need to stop WFH and actually do what they're paid for.

Having dealt with "the other side of this" i.e speeding tickets, i can state that what would normally happen was that if the details showed the car as "in trade", we'd send an accompanying letter to the previous owner advising that it was known that they no longer owned the vehicle, but please could they advise who it was sold to so enquiries could begin. My guess is that the car could still be in the trade, and simply passed to a different dealer, or, like you say, they're dreadful with paperwork!

Hallelujah!
The V5c finally arrived after seven weeks and re-applying. I presume the original copy is lost in a dark corner of a sorting office somewhere in Britain.
Still a blink of an eye compared to the 7 months I waited for a new photo licence during covid times (or the 11 months my dad waited for his)
