Bought this in late ‘95 when I discovered the rot on my ‘87 Fiesta 1.4S was pretty terminal. This was also my first saloon after driving hatchbacks (a Polo, an Escort and a couple of Fiestas) in my early driving career.
Started off as an ‘93 Orion 1.8 LX “Equip” edition, so it had the 105bhp Zetec motor and five speed. Creature comforts were central locking and power windows! Plush, right? It was someone’s company car and had a bunch of miles on it, something like 70000 in not quite three years, but it ran like a top.
In the quest to make it mine, I started by removing the badges and decals from the boot lid, dropped it a bunch on Jamex springs and struts, a Janspeed cat-back exhaust and a K&N cone filter. Some smooth 15” five spokes wrapped in Bridgestone tyres helped the grip, and body color sun strips, clear repeaters and a BTCC inspired mono wiper gave it all the correct late-90’s style.
Inside was a Momo wheel and polished gear knob, and a pretty beefy stereo with Kenwood cd players, Audio Control eq, DEI Audio amps and MB Quart speakers.
Loved this car but had to sell it move stateside. Like most Fords of this generation, it’s probably dissolved into rust by now, even though it was rust-free when I sold it.
