Just a general query if anyone has any experience of chrome spraying, not the small aerosol level but professional level services?
Looking towards getting a full size bumper sprayed. What level of work do the suppliers normally undertake in terms of the preparation and what do you need to do in advance?

I didn't know this was a thing? I am intrigued as have some tired chrome wheels, I was going to paint them in minicab/banger racer wheel silver but would rather they were super shiny.

Prochrome DerbyWas thinking this might be a practical option for some off my bigger bits like bumpers?

Ooh, localish. I might hunt around for some 'real world' results. And prices...

Hi, This chrome paint came up a few years ago on the Rover P5 forum in reference the RoStyle wheels, the conclusion was it was expensive and wasn't the same as chrome but acceptable, against the cost of dismantling, re-chroming and re assembly of the wheel. However they do tend to be a bit fussy on there. Time has moved on so may be more affordable now.

Ive has stuff powder coated in 'chrome' before. It obviously doesn't look like real chrome at all but its a lot better than spraying something in silver paint.
Id speak to the local powder coaters and see if they have a sample you can look at. Bumper will probably need sandblasting first but a lot of coaters can do that for you.

Got a couple of powder coaters locally including one which does various specialist finishes... and being honest not thought to ask them about options so one to explore when they reopen. Think it's the balance of cost versus finish... not looking to chase concours awards but just tidy up the look and give it a 10 yard shine.

I probably will give this a go. I have some chrome steel wheels which are prohibitively expensive to get rechromed.
Powdercoating is an option, it doesn't look like chrome but it looks nice, more like a buffed alloy than chrome plate. I can see that looking better in some cases than chrome would. Good powder will last better than cheap chrome. I was planning on having some 5 spokes done in powder. I'll post results
I have had feedback in the past that some of these "chrome sprays" don't hold up well in our climate and go milky and dull and then can't be polished back up - this was specifically NOT in relation to these guys in Derby and was a few years back so tech can move along. I would be tempted to try some stuff with them and see what comes up.
I also know a kickass top class chrome plater. Nottingham Platers. Brilliant work. I used them on my Humber brightwork. NOT CHEAP but top class work.

I looked at spray chrome a while back but couldn't find anyone remotely local who was doing it, but of course things move on and there are more around now. It's a long way from "chrome" aerosols and powder coating in that it does seem to be very much like a proper chrome finish, and of course it's available on things that can't normally be chromed like plastic. I still haven't seen it in real life, and I'm not sure of the longevity, though it is usually lacquered over, so in theory it's as strong as the paint on the bodywork. I contacted one paint supplier because I wanted to do my headlight reflectors, but they told me it wouldn't be suitable as it wouldn't be able to cope with the heat.

I've seen work done by Chrome Spray in Basildon and it looks pretty realistic, no idea on cost or durability though (I believe they finish it with 2 pack so should be similar durability to paint) They have a website where you can see the results. www.chromespray.co.uk
