Brief synopsis. Car was tested. One of the fail items was third brake-light. Used one was sourced & fitted but no lighty up. Checked fuses (after spending money on a light that I probably don't need cos 'm a genius) and they are fine. Everything else on the tailgate is working (none of these are tested naturally). I don't know where to look/ what to do next. Help appreciated.

Apparently on its own fuse F37 if that's fine then wiring nipped in the boot loom where it passes through into the body of the car? Found the below on alfaowner Well I fixed it. First of all I took out the fuse and checked that. Seemed to be fine - passed current no problem. I then decided to check whether the connector at the light bar was getting power. I had to prise out the piece of plastic trim in the boot lid this allowed access to the three clips which hold the light unit in place. Some slight pressure on the underside of the clips allows you to push the light housing out. Pressing the clip on the connector allows the light unit to be disconnected. I then stuck a couple of small pins down the connector to allow me to connect my multi meter to it. A couple of presses on the brake pedal proved the connector was getting power. I thought the connector felt a little loose, so I put some slight pressure on the light bar connection pins to bring them closer together. Once I connected the light bar back up and pressed the brakes; voila! They lit up. Loose connector at the light bar. I'll have to keep an eye on it, but it seems it was just a dodgy connection. From an Italian car? Who'd have thought it?? Thanks. I tried that but its as dead as a dodo at the connector. There is power at the fuse, both sides, so it seems the loom is damaged. Will look for a broken wire tomorrow.

So you know, I assume this is MOT related, any third or additional brake lamp that doesn’t function in it’s entirety is NOT a testable item and is a pass and advise as non-mandatory stop lamp not functioning. If it works but less than 50% of its light source is working it’s a fail, so you can disconnect it and it becomes a pass. Hope that helps.
