Today, whilst Playing with the Toledo, (C20XEpowered) recently I have done loads of re-wiring, and I'm now starting to reassemble things, got to the Lucas alternator, Honestly, I have always thought it struggled a bit when fans, fuel pump and things were running, the Voltmeter would drop to 11v ish, I'm thinking, despite the engine swap the original alternator still may be in place, the thing puts out a whopping 35 amps, if I'm lucky, and bearing in mind next year I will be running full ITB injection with extra pumps bigger fans etc, Time for a swap, I'm thinking the Lucas ACR series may be a bit on the underpowered side, although I have found uprated 17ACRs bumped up to 55a, but I think that may still be on the light side, I might be tempted to say 75a to be safe, thoughts gentlemen? I would prefer the alternator Lucas fitment, one that pops out would be the A127, which are rated to 70 or 75a, but most seem to be Chinese knockoffs, are the chinese ones any good? or does anybody offer a ACR series with better than 55a

Mate of mine has just done a similar swap and asked the same questions of longevity - Basically you get what you pay for so don't expect the far East versions to last much out the warranty. My mate went for the 85A upgrade of the A127 / ACR here and is very happy - Not cheap though www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/p/85-100a-lucas-alternator-upgraderemmoc may be able to provide more qualified advice.

You need at least 10A over the cars maximum draw for decent charge capacity , theres nothing bigger in the ACR range than 55A so your correct in thinking A127 . Theres various outputs available 55A up to a modified 100A unit . A lot are Chinese but there are Italian ones made by Magneti Marelli I use genuine Denso now on my Imps , late ones of these did run ACR units and the tiny 93mm ones fit straight on , that said they are only 40A , Theres a 100mm one at 60A and a 118mm one at 90A A 70 or 90A A127 will be fine as long as you have room to fit it , they are somewhat bigger than an ACR one

I'm used to seeing 80-90a in modern cars. I know the ampage starts getting higher with moderns, aircon, electric windows, big stereos, electric everything, all I have got are 2 fuel pumps, and an Ecu, not much more than that, it might get a small radio,

70A should be ample my 1988 MR2 MK1(b) has a 70A Denso alternator as standard and it never struggles (fuel injection, fuel pump, electronic ignition, ECU, heated rear screen, electric mirrors, central locking, alarm system, electric pop up lights, 2 big radiator fans, engine bay fan, head unit + power amp and probably something I've forgotten about .... I did, electric windows ) IIRC the MK1(a) came with a 65A alternator as standard

My nephews Astra GTE rally car was eating alternators. He fitted bigger and bigger alternators until he ended up with a 110A Bosch unit that I think came from a Calibra. It is massive though.
