I'm selling this on behalf of my Dad, who has bought my mk1 Fiesta off me, will be moving house soon and doesn't realistically need two 1980s hatchbacks.
1985 Renault 5 TL - which as such niceties as a radio, a clock a parcel shelf and a 5 speed gearbox!
It's done about 50,000 miles (although these isn't really any paperwork to back this up) and drives very nicely. Properly squishy and French but with surprisingly good handling. The thrums away like a sewing machine, gearbox is easy to use and it goes around corners and stops in a nice predictable way with no horrible noises. It actually zips along quite well on a good run, which the 5 speed box really helps.
Toyo tyres all round with good tread.
The bodywork is superb with no corrosion. It has survived extremely well and must be one of the best basic Renault 5s around now. Interior is similar with no rips on the upholstery.
It's not without fault.
The exhaust is pretty ropey and could do with being replaced, it didn't fail the last MOT but will probably fail the next.
There is a bit of a hesitation when accelerating away in low gears, like its not quite getting an extra squirt of fuel it is expecting.
The clutch feels a bit high to us but isn't slipping. A new clutch will come with it.
He's after £2750 for it, which for a mid-80s car in this condition I think is pretty good value. It's available in Tiverton, Devon, EX16 - not a hard part of Devon to get to.
Not far from junction 27 of the M5. I can probably come pick you up from Tiverton Parkway train station or Tiverton Bus Station if needed too.
