A workmate of mine has an obsession with all sorts of vehicles. He owns a very eclectic mix but has recently scratched an itch for London black cabs that he's had since being a kid. He has managed to get 4 in the last 10 months One being a very early 60s one which spent most of its time in America as a publicity vehicle. So I'm posting this thread in an attempt to help him source parts etc as I know there will be a few tangents on here. He has the Facebook pages and owners club angle covered. Please post any pics of black cabs interesting or modified

I cant help, but they don't half look better without the lorry wheels and with proper chrome bumpers.

Not sure if Leyton taxi parts is still going but they used to do fx4 bits. Love the early ones with the smaller back lights.

I've always liked these, expecially the proper early ones. There were millions, there was a specific black cab graveyard in London I think, there have been a few customised / modified ones out there. There was a neat pro street one. They do appear to act as chassis donors (or at least ID Donors) for hot rods though...

Here's an interesting one- The full story is on the NSRA forum here.It looks like quite a saga. The rod doesn't exist in this form anymore but if you read to the end it does have a happy ending, or should that be a second act.

Also scratched the itch few years back acquiring one nigh on straight out of service in London area / had 250,000 miles on clock / no cam chain just bevel gears and great fun / kids loved being collected from parties in it / wife not keen and when advertised was bought by an enterprise who owned a British pub / hotel in Spain and wanted it for airport transfers / got a good p / ex on it due to buyer wanting an original one although before i saved the one i got it was heading down the mobile disco / bar route
