The 52 Express project is being led by former GP and TT sidecar racer Alex Macfadzean, and is one of the most outrageous-looking contraptions you will probably ever see. It's powered by a 1,200 hp Rolls-Royce Gem gas turbine engine, and to slow it down it has a twin parachute arrangement. The current world record stands at 376 mph, which was set aboard a 1,000 hp Suzuki ridden by American Rocky Robinson, back in 2010. The 52 Express team, run by Project 100, is hoping to hit 400 mph and potentially beyond in 2023.
Macdazean does have a good track record. In 2001, he helped design the motorcycle that broke the British land-speed record in 1991, as well as helping American Don Vesco take a 458 mph four-wheel record in 2001. He is well-placed to help Martin take on another world record and add to his impressive resume. Martin has been testing the 52 Express in its current form at Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire, United Kingdom, and has so far taken the bike to just below 150 mph. This isn’t the first time however that Martin has set out to break the motorcycle speed record.
My Girlfriend met Alex a few weeks ago, she was wearing a santa pod jacket, he approached her and they started talking, he went on to explain the project he is involved in, and would she like to pop over and pay a visit sometime?
