akku your list is a lot more generous than mine would be 😉 Unless you mean memorable for all the wrong reasons. Also quite a few of those are actually 80s cars carried over.

Don't forget the 90s were the decade of people like that Lopez dude who changed from GM/Opel to Volkswagen, with the consequence that the quality dropped drastically (and explains the disappearance of so many opxhalls, too).
Okay, he may have made lots of share holders happy.
But I'm sure he is co-responsible for the disappearance of most golf mk3s.
I don't say that the mk3 is a very desirable car, but keeping in mind that it used to be the best selling car of its time, at least in germany, it's funny how rarely You see one in the streets today.

Folks would have said the same about 105E Anglias and the like back in the day - memorable for wrong reasons. I wouldn't necessarily want to own most of those but they were the more notable cars of the decade and I get why some folks will be into them. I saw a guy with a late 90s Vectra he had obviosuly spent a fortune on. I don't get it. But I don't have to. Yeah, some of those carried over or were platforms based on, continued from the 80s. The Alfa Spider was from the 60s or 70s but it got a bit of a refresh for '90 so I thought it was valid.

I have been here in Spain since 2010 and whilst I now don´t see some of the cars mentioned everyday. A quick search on the Spanish sites will bring up rust free examples of old favourites. I currently have a Kadett GT that I bought for just 900 euros and a 2 door Rangie for 1700 in 2019.

Think there's a few factors in play, certainly the scrappage scheme will have seen off a proportion of 90s & early 00s models. Despite improvements in rustproofing I recall structural rust taking hold(Ford and GM particularly). The car becoming another consumer product, more throwaway almost. The gradual reduction of people with time/inclination to repair against the back drop of but new/upgrade/consume more so a greater percentage were disposed of earlier in their life cycle I'd suggest. It was easier and more credible to chop in your 'banger' and get a new model on 4/5 years cheap credit.
Add to that most cars could be seen as practical, capable but bland(yes there were hot & desirable models but mostly they're family hacks... mondeo, cavalier/vectra, Passat, Avensis) there isnt an enthusiast market big enough to sustain models in any volume.

I like 90s cars. It's the first decade where different manufacturers managed to build cars that didn't all look the same as each other because they started been able to do things like make headlights in different shapes other than round or rectangle.

I don’t think there’s anything different about 90s cars becoming scarce than you might once have said years ago about 80s cars, or 70s cars before that.
The same thing is happening now with cars from the early 2000s like MK3 Mondeos.
I do think older cars generally have longer lives in warmer climes where they don’t need to use salt on the roads.

I’m firmly stuck in the 90s now there’s still some bargains to be had, some shows still don’t accept these cars as show worthy But I remember turning up to shows and meets in a mk1 escort and being looked down on in the 80s I like all 90s cars from fords to mercs and rovers The scrappage scheme as said has killed off many good 90s cars, that’s why finding something now is always great for me I’m currently chasing of all things a Peugeot 106, just because I haven’t seen a good one for ages and I’ve spotted one locally
