In my effort to build a better mousetrap, I would like to modify a triple gauge from Amps, Temp, and Fuel to Oil, Temp and Fuel, changing the gauge internals is a nothing Job, take all of 5 mins, but I would like to get the face of the gauge to read what its meant to, does anyone on here know of somebody who can re paint a face?, The gauge concerned, ------. removing the "VOLTS" and changing it to "OIL"

Thought about that, but you try finding the desired font you need. I cant find an index.....

Or are the other instruments in the car the same typeface? they are similar typeface, but not identical. thats a possibility, the other option I noticed when walking the dog was the vinyl shop, they may scan and cut a full set might work if I got then to do it on a satin black disc with white letters,

It's all screen printed isn't it? If you wanted to you could knock up a photoshop of what you need. Print it out and make a screen to print it yourself.

Could you just knock up the artwork in something like Inkscape and then use an online printer to print you a few on thin card? A decent printer who'll guarantee the colour stability would be ideal.
Take a square-on photo of the dial, preferably without the glass in the way, or scan it if you have a scanner. Import the bitmap into Inkscape, create a new layer on top and draw your new logos using the font in the correct place, then delete the bitmap layer. Then you can make any changes you want.
I used to have a Tektronix Phaser printer in work, that printed using solid ink - basically you'd put what looked like four massive wine gums into it, and it would slice little bits off and melt them, then use the liquid to print. A lovely thing, and it printed very solid blacks. I always meant to print some dial faces but never got around to it.
Or get some water-slide decals made featuring the white lettering, spray the dial face in satin black and apply the decals. That's probably relatively expensive as you need something that can print white, where the other options would just print the black sections.

It is very tricky to make a neat job of using Lettraset to modify a gauge face, particularly if you are as picky as I am. CAI Gaiges (Caerbont) still build Smiths Classic gauges, and they do custom builds, so I would assume they will be able to reprint a gauge face. I hope so, because I plan on asking them to redo the auxiliary gauge on my Austin in a similar fashion. I want the generic 60's gauge I have with "Fuel-Temp-Volts" and redone with a font that matches the original Austin's "Fuel-Oil-Amps", and the addition of the "Flying A" in the centre. The gauges themselves come apart easily enough, and the insert with the writing on can be easily removed and sent off to whoever is going to do the work.
