I'm going rogue and saying stick with the tango indicators unless you're going Lexus-stylee clear rears too Yeah, that. Clear indicators just look daft, as proved by most modern cars. WD40 in the locks? You curse word butcher. walmer castle and gardens are reasonable day out.

That said, the Harbour Arm and old town in Folkestone are worth a mooch around. Thereโs been some significant regeneration of the old Harbour Station buildings and the fresh seafood near the old fishmarket is always good. ๐

The older face of these looks goofy with clear indicator lenses. Orange suits it better. Plus orange and blue "go" together well. The newer face has clear lenses, and a number of places you can fit internal side lights.
Those headlights are magnificently terrible, I think the manufacturers used cheap silver paint as a reflective surface. The H4 aftermarket variants are much better.
As usual, good work on picking at the details and tidying up.

I can't remember exactly the detail but there is a firm in the west midlands who can do this.

All of the ones sold here in recent years were useless. They go bad in about 8 months, do a better job then of dazzling other drivers than lighting the road. Invariably the sealing cement that holds the front lens to the reflector doesn't like summer/winter heat cycles and started to leak. Real common to see these with no reflector left or looking like a goldfish bowl. Our Astro had that issue. Regular replacement was the only answer for the sealed beams, they seem to come off the cheapest production line these days.

So she is happy, and I will be sacrificing some animal products on the fire for her later. Should all be good.

As far as the headlights are concerned, they are in great condition. So I guess I saved a few quid there. Regarding the indicators, I will keep the old ones and someone else can decide to refit them if they buy the van. Like with the S10, I tend to keep the changed parts as taste differs.

Liking seeing the progress on this.
Around here every single one of these i tatty, missing pieces, broken and smoky with paint that's all but gone and large patches of rust.
It's nice to see one being given some love.

For the moment it looks like they are fine, this van has lived a very protected life it seems. So I hope to keep the cash in my pocket for chicken wings on the road trip.

It's nice to see one being given some love. I think you are right. After all, these are not Caddies, so quality is commensurate with function. The good ones out there are possibly often show cars or hot rods, built as a hobby car, rather than a painters van filled with the smell of tacos and hot sauce. I am only guessing the smells ๐

Up early, as usual, then went to fill the van up to its neck, suspect 75 litres or 15 gallons, too lazy to search Google right now. Local gas station is still running a manned forecourt, so you may not fill your own car/truck. Likes the Dino-Juice. Letโs see how much it likes it. Once Sally got here, we set off. She took a pic of me because of my silly grin most of the way. One of the places we ended up was on the Isle of Sheppey, at good friend Darrenโs engineering shop. Always one to look for other avenues of revenue, and also liking a project or two on the side. This is current with great potential. After making a full round of his newest car, engineering and fun stuff, I searched his massive dumpster/skip in case there were treasures in thereโฆโฆ No luck. But, associated with one of his current engineering projects, was thisโฆโฆ.. Check the last two entries forum.retro-rides.org/thread/211832/grizz-s10-rumblegrizzkin-sale-real?page=179Once weโre done at Darrenโs it was off to some shops. Now we all know the saying, โIf you donโt look back at your car when you walk away, you bought the wrong carโ Well, I never expected to hear the words from a usually reserved, noncommittal Sally. Half way to the shops, she stopped and looked back, saying โYou,did get lucky finding such a nice looking vanโ High praise indeed from the Queen of Yeah, itโs OK. Coming back, I felt compelled to take another pic of the same blue van, these colours really do love a bit of light. Lastly, an early morning message from Dennisโฆโฆ Looks like it is going to continue being hellishly hot in the USA. I donโt really care, as long as I get there.

Since the headlights are fine, my comment is academic, aren't they ordinary rectangular headlights? Used in some toyotas, jeeps and other random vehicles, meaning h4 and led replacements are easily available Personally i think it could do with tinted headlight covers for the evil front look Ttfn Glenn Ps now you have freed the locks up, work some oil into them to keep them free

Ours was pretty good on fuel so long as you didn't floor it everywhere. At a steady 70 it would get in the low 20's which isn't bad for a van.
And yes, it's hot over here. Bring sunscreen.

Bring sunscreen. 100% agreed on the fuel consumption. I seem to recall the truck returned 26 mpg when I drove to Frankenhealey to collect the tractor. And that was 320 miles. But it was at a very steady 65-70 due to traffic and torrential rain. This van on the roughest of calculations seems to be around 22 but I will only know that once I do another 200 miles or so to create a decent void to fill again. It does like to be played with as well. Engine is really eager. I donโt do sunscreeen, but certainly keep to the shade.

Small jobs. They keep on popping their little grubby heads up. Today, after taking the day off yesterday to do a very belated and apologetic birthday BBQ, Sally went home to clean her already clean house and various other tasks. This made her a lot happier than a fist full of cash I gave her as an apology for forgetting her birthday. So this morning I got going early because time slips away quietly and quickly. Steering wheel has irked ,e from day one, just the way paint had flaked over time. So I polished the ally boss, masked the plastic section and flatted the ally section. Then wrapped most of the interior in T-shirts and an old sheet in order to apply some satin black. Result. Improved. Video. Once again, not a 5 minute job, but a small one that makes for the right result. Back to work tomorrow. .

The 4.3 is a nice "lightweight" engine, it likes to rev but does run out of breath toward the upper end of the range. They do turbocharge really well.
The first gen dash is nicer to look at but the second gen came with crotch vent. Hard to decide, form over function...
Also, BBQ trumps car work every time. Nothing to feel guilty about.
