Just been talking to brachunky about buying some front upper shock mounting plates for a Chinese car that is/was mainly sold in Pakistan, but also in South Africa. A friend has one that needs the front upper shock mounts replaced. Who uses Ali-Express in the UK? Experience, or anecdotal evidence please……..

All the time. Never had an issue that went unresolved, customer service are actually easier to deal with than somewhere like PayPal, just be wary of what you are buying, if it looks too goOd to be true, it probably is. That said my £20 smart watch is definitely worth the £20 I paid as a punt. Only thing I’ve had which has been truly disappointing was a set of 10 tweezers for £1.65 that I ordered to complete the ‘3 items or more from £1.65’ so yea. Look for the 11 and 15 day shipping options, and items then usually come quickly.

Ordered a take-off-adaptor plate and an oil cooler for a Smart car a couple of years ago. The only time I've use AliExpress but it was a surprisingly decent item and a smooth transaction.

I bought a set of Maxpeedingrods forged conrods for my MGB in 2020 or 2021 I think it was, from Aliexpress, they were cheaper on there than the sets in the UK which had all had a price hike.
The parts turned up all fine, can't recall exactly how quickly they arrived but I don't think it took too long

I bought a new lcd display for the headunit in my daily nissan juke (known fault, the display fades until you can't read it) Cheap, arrived in reasonable time. Fitted perfectly, still working 1.5 years later.

Sounds a reasonably safe bet then! As explained to Grizz, my biggest worry was being taken for a ride providing payment details as they don't have Paypal. I just have HUGE concerns providing them with this.

Paypal are no guarantee of safety, robbing barswards!! at least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask I certainly wouldn't let the lack of Paypal put me off.

I use it for all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff. There's full rebuild kits for various plant-style engines on there for about 1/6th of the cost of the parts over here, and they've all been absolutely bang on for quality and sizing etc. Obviously shipping can be a bit slower, but you then get the bonus surprise of stuff turning up that you forgot you ordered.

I've just bought some carbon brushes to fix my sunroof motor from Ali express as they we're the only place I could find the right size that weren't asking 6 billion pounds for them.

Not a direct answer, but my wife use's it for sewing supplies for her business if it's something she doesnt need quickly. The things she has boought have been better quality and about 1/5 the price of the "same" thing on ebay.
We have only ever had 1 problem and that was a set of 120+ artist markers for my son, they were like £20 delivered and didnt show up. Got a full refund after 60 days & a week later they actually turned up.
So in summary, more reliable & easier to deal with than ebay.
As a side note, we have had things from "ebay uk sellers" that were obviously shipped directly from Ali express. So the next time we bought them from Ali and saved 50%

I once had a similar issue, but they resent the parcel and it arrived, never saw the lost item.

Bought some bits 'n pieces for my Audi, all good, fraction of the eBay cost, delivery a bit extended (15-20 days) but, worth the wait for the savings Ordered some bits , realised I'd ordered incorrectly, cancelled order , refund with 24 hrs ... I've paid for my stuff using PayPal as well. I've also found if you order from different suppliers, pay, then all the items came in same parcel. Most of my purchases have been, relatively, lower value items ( less than £20 ish) applying the slightly floored logic that UK suppliers should be easier to converse with and get resolution ! As others have said , sensors look a bit hit 'n miss , again no worse than some on the bay of e ... Caveat emptor ...
