Bit of an odd one here!
1984 T25 Panel Van (C Reg) no idea on mileage, definitely no MOT, has been off the road for at least 15 years if not probably 20.
It has seen better days, and initially I was just going to take doors etc off to sell and scrap it, but having had a look, while some bits are crusty, Ive seen worse on the road frankly, so it might be of use to someone.
See pics for general idea of condition – it is tight to a wall and I cant currently move it easily until its actually ready to go, as it will then be in the way of other stuff, but they give you a good enough initial idea. It’s a non-runner, so would need trailering away anyway. The inside is actually quite straight for a van, it seems a shame for it to be scrapped in a way.
I think it was originally a diesel, however it currently has a 2.1 Audi 5 cylinder petrol engine fitted. This is where it all gets a bit weird!
Before he died, my Granddad was planning on doing a 5 cylinder engine conversion on his T25 doka, but didn’t want it off the road for ages while he figured everything out, so bought this van to use as a prototype, get everything fitted, then was going to transfer all over to his pickup.
He died last April, before actually finishing the project off, and now I need this out the way as I am working my way through all his stuff to make sense of the huge pile of curse word he left behind!
In terms of the 5 cylinder, it is fitted in there with custom mounts on a diesel engine cradle, with a diesel bellhousing and adapter onto a (I think) 5 speed petrol gearbox. There is a custom exhaust, its all connected up to the driveshafts, I think from memory it has a different sump etc to allow it to be canted over to fit into the T25 engine bay like a South African one etc etc – Physically it is all installed, and he had it running.
It isn’t plumbed into a petrol tank properly (he was running it from a jerry can) and he didn’t finish the wiring, so its not a 2 minute job to finish off, but a lot of the mechanical hard work has been done.
I basically just need the curse word thing out of my way now to be honest – If you wanted to do a 5 cylinder T25 conversion, it’s a perfect ‘kit’ of bits, but I appreciate that it isn’t such a popular conversion any more (although if you do, I also have another three 2.1 5 cylinder engines lying around you may also be interested in!), so the way I see it, the van could be sold in 2 ways:
As it is, with the 5 cylinder etc all fitted - £700 (the adapter plate, diesel cradle etc are all fairly sought after I think for other conversions like golf engines into T25s, so there is some value there even if you don’t want to do the 5 cylinder one)
Or I can drop the engine and gearbox etc out to sell separately, and the van itself could go for £500.
I figure either of those ways it would break for more than the asking price anyway if you ended up not being bothered to finish it off!
I cant find the V5, so that would need applying for, and I need to work out which of the hundreds of sets of VW keys that are here are for the van! 2 of the tyres are knackered but hold air long enough to push it onto a trailer, 1 is completely buggered, so you might want to bring a wheel to collect to make life easier. It will definitely need trailering - You arent going to get away with towing it behind something on an A frame etc!
Its in Cheslyn Hay (Cannock is about the closest place anyone ever seems to have heard of) in the West Mids, just off the M6 for people to have a look – If you want pics of any specific bits before considering coming to have a look, let me know.
If its not gone (or at least someone seriously wants it) in a couple of weeks, I'm dropping the engine out, its getting filled with all the scrap I have piled up in the corner and going straight to the weighbridge, so shout fairly quickly if you are interested at all – It would be a shame for it to go for scrap, but I haven’t really got the time or inclination to curse word about too much with it!
Shout with any questions
