For Sale - Citroen GSA Pallas – 1982, 1299cc 5 speed – Jaune Helianthe
Due to an unexpected loss of storage, my GSA is up for sale. I don’t want to keep it outside, and my garage is full so the GSA sadly gets to find a new home, hopefully.
For those not familiar with then, the GSA was introduced as the GS in 1970. An aerodynamic body covered an all-alloy flat 4 air cooled engine and the hydraulic, or rather oleopneumatic suspension system that the DS was famous for, providing unparalleled ride quality and suprisingly capable road holding. The hydraulic circuit also powers the inboard front disc brakes and outboard rear disc brakes and makes for very adequate stopping power. The 1299cc flat four is free revving, and very willing, mated to the 5 speed box in this later model it can easily keep up with modern traffic.
I’ve not had it as long as I would like, and it’s not being sold for any other reason than I will lose somewhere to keep it in a couple of weeks. In the time I’ve had it I’ve enjoyed many trips, including several long journeys, all without issue. It’s very comfortable, has been very reliable in my ownership, and gets lots of attention. It’s not perfect, by any means, and there’s things to improve, but I feel that’s reflected in the price.
The car is located near Oxford. From what I can see, it was originally a white GSA Pallas. It underwent a restoration by the previous but one owner over several years from 2015-2019, I’ve included a few photos here so you can see the extent of the work that was carried out. Evidently, an awful lot of rot was removed and new metal cut in, replacement panels fitted etc., before being resprayed in the fabulous colour Jaune Helianthe (AC328) which was a 1975 only colour on GS X/X2’s I think. Needless to say, it stands out and suits the car well. As you can tell from the photos the paintwork is good but not great. There are a few blemishes in the paint, and some bubbling at the bottom of the front doors, but overall it is very smart, solid and presents well. If you’re interested, I can provide comprehensive photos of the restoration from the previous owner.
The engine was rebuilt by renown GS/GSA specialist Chevronics in 2018 and drives very well. There’s a slight leak from the exhaust which I haven’t got round to looking at, but it starts on the button and runs very happily all day long. The 5 speed gearbox shifts nicely, and makes long journeys very feasible and economic, getting 40mpg is not difficult. There is also an intermittent weep from one of the drive shaft oil seals, which isn’t significant but could do with looking at, and would be my next job. A new clutch was fitted in 2018, as were new spheres. The hydraulics work as they should with no leaks that I am aware of.
The car was retrimmed when it was restored, but the material had faded when I bought it. Seats have been re-dyed successfully, but the door cards could do with re-dyeing too. Dashboard has a few cracks, which seem fairly common, but everything works that should, as far as I’m aware.
Wheels are GSA X3 alloys, in very good condition with 2021 date stamped Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres. These have covered approx. 5k miles.
A good amount of paperwork and photographic history comes with the car. It’s currently fitted with X3 bumpers front and rear, but a pair of rare new old stock bumpers can come with the car by negotiation.
Available to view anytime. Please fire away with any questions.
