I have been given an old Motorola model 114 push button radio still fitted in centre console which I think is from an Alfa Sud. I’ve connected it to power and it lights up. So, I’d like to hang it on the workshop wall, get a speaker and aerial and connect it up to a battery. The wave lengths are 1000 - 2000 long wave and 200 - 550 medium wave. Anyone have any idea if there are any stations still broadcasting in either of these and if so what they are? Many thanks

I have probably the exact same model as that in my garage that I’ve been trying to give away, it’s in really good nick if you would like another 😅

IIRC Radio 4 on long wave and depending on where you live on medium wave, you might find a local station plus Absolute Radio, Talk Sport, BBC Radio 5 Live and Smooth Radio. There may well be others and what's available may have changed since the last time I played with a LW/MW set.

I am contemplating a car it would go great in the dash of, and even if it doesn't go in there, theres others....

Many thanks Old radio fans track all this stuff, there are a few, but really not many at all... check out this listing: www.mediumwaveradio.com/uk.php From the frequencies it looks like they have MW and LW stations all listed together there. Not sure how up to date that website is. Talking with some radio guys apparently the BBC stuff is on such ancient kit its all valve powered and the BBC policy is they keep it going until a valve blows then they take it down. There are guys out there converting these old radios to bluetooth recievers, or you can run a line-in on them usually, if you know what you are doing... Or know someone who does. Also I have a mate who collects vintage valve radios and they are all* SW/MW/LW and he bought a cheap AM transmitter and plays his own playlist to the radios using that. So there are options.

Not sure if it’s any help but on jdm cars you have to buy a thing called a bandwidth expander or extractor or something like that and fit it to the radios to work in the uk. No idea what it is or how it works I’ll go look it up

Bandwidth expander is only good for FM frequencies, no use for LW or MW. It's needed for JDM FM radios because the Japanese FM radio was originally 76-90 Mhz and UK is 90-108Mhz so without it you can't pick up any UK FM stations

Had a bit of a testing session today on the above head units I don't have any audio cassette tapes to test with so the tape playing was tested using a converter tape plugged into the headphone socket of my Android tablet Results are: Pioneer KP212 cassette deck works fine Yours akku if you want it. Blaupunkt London the radio works great and the tape works OK with the converter, but the pinch roller is kaput so no good for audio tapes. misteralz asked for this The old Blaupunkt with the white knobs, which I believe is a mid 60's Franfurt ATR with 4 bands, Long, Medium,Short and FM, works Ok. The volume/tone control is a little bit crackly when adjusted, but would probably be ok after a spray with some contact cleaner. It's only mono but has a very nice sound to it. sweetmk1dub yours if you want it The Philips DC383 (mid 80's) radio works OK the frequency display is a bit faint. The tape deck doesn't like my converter tape the drive runs but won't engage the head. Might be OK with a proper audio tape Didn't test the Prinz equalizer, couldn't be bothered hooking it up, it was working when it went in the black hole drawer. If anyone wants it I'll set it up and give it a test. Gave them all a clean and blow out and marked up the connections. Update The 2 Blaupunkt's have gone to new caretakers
