As per the title I have a few questions regarding the X18XE1 Vauxhall engine and I am hoping that some of those on here with a bit more experience than myself can enlighten me a bit.
I am specifically after the XE1 because it is small block. Due to my space confines a small block is exactly what I need. I also understand that the X18XE1 uses a cable throttle rather than a DBW style throttle.
My main concerns come from the wiring side of things, which I think is common with a lot of us when it comes to engine conversions! So I am trying to gauge here if what i am thinking of doing is the correct approach. I have always bought a donor car and taken everything I need out of that. I am trying to avoid this on this occasion. I have instead found a breaker with pretty much a whole front clip. The package consists of engine, box, ancillaries, engine loom, dials, key and transponder. This is everything that would be needed to swap the engine into a vauxhall, but that's not my plan. So I believe I need a few more bits.
Is it simply a case of finding a X18XE1 in a breakers yard and cutting off sections of the loom I need? So I would be taking the plugs and a bit of loom from where the engine loom & body loom connect, the transponder, dials, fuel pump & ODB port? Is this possible? I have only ever taken the whole loom, then cut out what I don't need.
I am sure someone on here years ago told me that there was a company that you could send your loom off to and they would trim it all up, remove the gumpf that isn't needed and send something back that just needed a power supply linking up to get an engine running, which would be great.
Part of me wants to chuck a set of bike carbs on it with some mega jolt, nice and simple... however there would be some huge benefits to retaining the vauxhaull management and injection system. I have run this car before with a Nissan engine and it was fabulous, however lacked the desired power. That was running the NATS system and also had the ODB port which was beneficial.
Ultimately I suppose I am trying to find out if it is possible to obtain the parts I need easily from a breaker to complete my conversion package. If the Vauxhall wiring and immobiliser systems are easily worked around and don't need some super rare system made from unobtanium to get them running.
Any advice or input on the wiring side of this would be absolutely fantastic and gratefully received.
