Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread, or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Day late because of bank holiday and being away from my computer for a whole load of yesterday. I've got a weeks holiday this week, definitely plan to decompress a bit, but still got plenty of stuff to do. Not least of which is tidy up some of the forum things that are currently not working. I'm also going back to brass tacks with the layout/design, will share what it currently looks like in reply to this post. Slowly catching up with all my outstanding emails and stuff too, from 122 to action yesterday to 65 today. Hopefully zero by the end of the day. In car news, not much happening, making a list of things to tidy up on the Range Rover and the Porsche, giving serious thought to replacing both this year. Hope we have a good week, not long now until Weekender (eeek!) Previous Thread: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/224653/chat-thread-birthday-week-wc

Currently the design update (mobile first redesign) looks like this: For those that know HTML though it is all much more semantic though. Starting to add visual styling today.

I went to a VSCC meeting, I have 1500 photos, I will post a few of the better ones up when I get 5 minutes. I meant to put the slotmags back on the Fiesta over the weekend but got waylaid with domestic chores and the like. Poor thing doesn't look its best without them Its clocking up miles though, went to see Aldous Harding last week in it, all the way to Norwich. Great little car. Needs slots back on...

It's still properly cool isn't it. And built before people really did that sort of stuff.
My motivation to do my own car stuff is on the up. Been making some more coilovers for the back of my Clio as I can't find anything that'll do what I want it to, apart from rather than make a body to suit a off the shelf damper insert I'm making the whole lot just to see if I can. I've been very lazy with my lathe use for the last few years as one of the other guys at work is excellent/fast at it so it's easier just to give stuff to him to do whilst I get on with other jobs, but I've got tons of stuff been able to confidently use a lathe will be handy for so need to get my confidence back and crack on.

Good to hear the mojo is back stealthstylz. I've been busy with coilovers as well. The new B16 kit landed for my M3 this week. The bad news is I now will be buying more things so as to finish off the build. Balljoint removal tool, some top mounts and bushes, all inevitably with M-Tax. The mojo for the M3 has come back. The sound, the pace, the look are all great. I've probably been having a little too much fun driving it. However, it's not all been M3 stuff with me. Just as it was H0tWire's birthday last week, it's mine this week. It's been lovely. Besides that, the 325d had some new anti-rattle springs to replace the very original and worn originals (or I think they are), which were becoming weak and not aligning themselves to the calipers properly I also got to drive an old Alfa. A 145 1.8 Twin Spark. It's lucky that I was able to do that. There were a few things to note about the experience. -While the term 'go-kart' is over used, it really does have the go kart feel. The steering wheel is at a similar angle to one, and of one in a Mini. It's also surprisingly feelsome, despite being light. It's quite something -The newer stuff make have looked more Italian, but this is moreso you'd argue. A speedo that only goes to 10mph, instead of 0, because of where the stop is on the needle? A heater window button on the wiper stalk, and the foglight switches in two places anyone? -The engine is a peach. It loves to rev, and is surprisingly sprightly. It's smooth, zingy, and great on fuel -It's rare. I can't remember when I last saw one, but it does turn heads. -The visibility, espeically with the window sill dropping out halfway down the door really helps the experience. It's a great machine. The price these go for is actually more attainable than you think, and they are very underrated. Being an old Alfa, parts can be fun to get, naturally.

Nothing retro related sadly (a 15 year old Mk4 Mondeo isn't quite there yet lol), but I'm taking my better half to Handa Island to see Puffins. Have spent the last 2 weeks getting the car ready for 1500+ miles over 4 days. It's going to be epic.

I really need to put my Insight up for sale so I have time to sort out a new ULEZmobile. Will mark my thread as for sale if anyone here wants first dibs (would prefer to sell to someone on here). Urgh, I hate buying and selling cars.

My daily (2005 golf gti) passed it's mot with zero advisories. Maybe I'll sort the rusty wings this year, this would be it's third set including originals.

Urgh, I hate buying and selling cars. That's a shame. I'm guessing it's a pre-2000 Insight, hence the sale? I do now loathe buying cars from folks, especially after having seen some cars for sale with friends recently. My daily (2005 golf gti) passed it's mot with zero advisories. Maybe I'll sort the rusty wings this year, this would be it's third set including originals. These MkV Golfs seem to be popular at the moment. Getting a good cheap one is quite hard, with the prices appearing to have doubled over what one cost you before. That said, it's what I'm also recommending to my bro-in-law who will need a ULEZmobile, despite the rust issues now. Mk6s are too flakey with the engine, and Mk7s are very strong money still

No, it's actually because it's an import and the relevant info isn't on the V5C. There is a mechanism to get this registered and get an imported car ULEZ exempted but, because mine is Japanese, Honda UK can't access the information. This is frustrating because my car is otherwise compliant. There is also a cut-off date too, after which compliant Japanese imports are automatically exempt. My work buddy's 2011 Japanese import Fit is exempt, for example.

I've been sorting out some workholding and doing some trial fitting so I can hopefully do interesting things to steering wheels soon.

Only taking two days to drive back from Italy. Stopped in a surprisingly small town on the way back.

For someone resident on the other side of the world just how far is that journey misteralz? I'm assuming much of it is at least half decent motorway?

I'm about half an hour north of Amsterdam, and we were staying about an hour south of Pisa. Typically somewhere between 14 and 16 hours, so not something you could do in one hit. Went down via Thionville and Chamonix to avoid Switzerland, then came back via Innsbruck to avoid Switzerland. Oh, and also via Stuttgart.

So 1600ish kilometres. Having done a journey of similar distance here in New Zealand pretty much non-stop (17.5hrs driving time plus a ferry ride and a brief rest stop in order to avoid hitting a major city in the morning rush hour after having been awake for over 20 hours) I would agree not a thing that should be attempted in one day.
