Here we go then. I’m planning to build a clone of a supersport from a fantastic donor vehicle, it’s almost rot free. It’s a 1.3 GL so quite appropriate. I’m not going to go to anorak lengths but I do want it close to correct. I’m not bothered that the logbook will say GL at all. Hopefully progress will be quite quick as I want it on the road in a few months as a run about car.

I had to google images of supersport Fiestas, what purpose does the valance bump serve?

It’s to make space for a 13” spare wheel and tyre. All other models (not XR2) came with a 12” wheel.

Exactly
Supersport and xr2 had 13 alloy wheel spare and the bump made room for it.
I could have bought a new non genuine rear panel with the bump for silly money, but I didn’t want to disturb the shell as it’s superb. And I’m tight.

If you can't find the body kit, a lowered mk1 Fester on Revolution RFX alloys looks amazing!

I have to admit that is the plums.
But I’ve got it in my head to build a standard mint supersport.

Crikey! That's in good condition. I had an early mk1 Fiesta 950L a long time ago and it has already dissolved to scrap within 10 years by 1988. Always loved the SuperSport - be great to see this finished.

Today I found a couple of hours and sorted the front of the passenger wing. I’d rather spend the time to save a good wing than rip it off to fit a new one. Once fully welded I shone a light from behind to find any pin holes in welding. Took another few minutes to plug them all.😂 but it should make for a good long term repair. Other wing needs same repair.

Yeah I spotted those, I think I can find better for less. I might be wrong though. 😂

Only have an hour or so today spare so attacked the front panel bit of grot. Really small bit, it’s a fab shell. I used the bit of rear panel I cut out for the bump as the repair patch, that made me smile. The inner wing end was so good I did drill two holes in the patch and plug weld it too the lip.

Didn’t have long so cleaned the grot and fibre out of drivers wing. It’s really not that bad. Started weld up at top and then ran out of time.

They all seemed to rot out the front wings. Mine went there, most of spare wheel well, along both inner sills, the flitches, and even crept across the bottom of the front bulkhead to floor almost as far as the tunnel.
If ever a model needed decent steel and a proper underfloor paint process it was the MK1 - all the more impressive that yours is so rust free.

Note the ugly welding I did in previous post pic. My welding often looks terrible till it’s cleaned up. But it’s solid and I do shine a light from behind after grinding to look for any pinholes which the get welded to make sure fully sealed. Found another hour so did a bit more.
