This is maybe less of a 'what's it worth?' and maybe more of a 'does anyone even want these anymore'
About 10 years ago, my Granddad started his masterplan of putting a 5 cylinder Audi engine into his T25 pickup, which he did actually make decent headway with (he got it installed and up and running in the test-bed panel van he bought for the purpose, he just never got the wiring finished off, nor a permanent fuel supply finished)
As he so unhelpfully died last April, he has left me with the joy of trying to sort out, among other things, a now fairly random selection of 3 petrol and one turbo diesel 5 cylinder engines, from what were pretty niche cars in the first place and I assume even more so now.
I know very little about them, or their applications, and so, they could well be basically paperweights fit only for the metal yard (which is fine) or they could be the most sought after things in the whole world, but I have no idea really, so if anyone is into them and can offer any advice, (or where to look as a none-facebook user, given so many forums seem to have died a death over the last few years) I would be much obliged. What I think I have so far:
I think that this is a 2.1 Petrol (WC Engine code) of unknown mileage and has been sat (sheeted up granted, but still) outside for about 5 years. I was literally dragging this to the scrap pile when I thought I ought to at least have a quick shufty as to whether anyone thought it may be of use to people.
This is a turbo diesel 5 cylinder. I think 2.0 from what I can gather (DE Engine code) but they appear to have sold so few of these, even the internet has forgotten about them. As above, I have no idea on mileage, age or provenance, and it has sat under the same sheet forever. It was also being dragged down the yard to the scrap pile till I panicked that maybe the manifold etc was the same as for the petrol turbo 5 cylinders, and I can retire from selling it to a quattro pervert. ANybody any idea if any parts are interchangeable? I cant imagine anyone in their right mind actually wants the engine itself!
This is another 2.1 WC coded one - I do know a little more about this one as this was the 'best' of the 4 he decided to hoard, and was the one actually destined for the T25 when he got it all sorted. Absolutely no proof of it, but it was from a 60 odd thousand miler that was scrapped for rot, and has been hand turned over reasonably regularly, as well as dry stored in an actual garage.
Finally there is another one, but I don't know engine code etc yet, as it is inconveniently installed in this......
If consensus is that they are vaguely of use/interest/desire to anyone other than my Granddad, it is worth me investigating it further, but if this post gets resounding silence as to anyone knowing anything about them/whether anyone in their right minds wants them, the it may end up staying in the van if the van gets scrapped (I need to give it a good look over - the pics may be a bit flattering as it was lashing it down. its not definitely getting scrapped, Ive only just moved enough curse word from round it to even get a decent look at it).
So after all that waffle, basically I suppose I am asking if we have anyone in the vicinity who knows anything about Audi 5 cylinder lumps!?
Cheers
