I don't really understand VW's marketing strategy. In the 80s and 90s VW had 4 basic models :- Polo, Golf, Sciroco/Corado (which was basically a coupe version of the Golf anyway) and Passat. There were body variations on those models but they shared the same basic identities. Now they seem to have a bewildering range of models; 18 different brand names, to fill every niche in the market. Not to forget Seat, Skoda and Audi versions of most of them too. They do an electric version of the Golf and the ID3 which is another golf sized electric car. Why? anyway, here's some proper retro golfs

Let’s be honest, it will happen to every model/manufacturer & faster than you probably think. Also if you’re VW you can’t get done for emissions if there ain’t any.

Each to their own and all that, but I could never understand peoples enthusiasm for these things. Even the old ones are just old modern cars to me. There's nothing special or interesting about any of it. Tansverse engine, front wheel drive, hatchback. Just like everything else on the road. The fast versions of the earlier cars aren't even fast any more, compared to anything a bit newer. Where's the interesting engineering, or stunning good looks? I can't understand how something so un-special has so many fans. Maybe someone can enlighten me?
