Good evening! I don't think I've ever put a build thread on here, so I thought I would put up our new van conversion, it's a little bit different to the norm and not a van I've seen done before, plenty of the longer wheelbase renault and vauxhall versions, but not this particular model. I have limited parking space at home so we needed a swb van with room to stand. So this is what I started with, a 2015 swb nissan NV400, 111k miles and previously registered as a disability vehicle, before doing some kind of roadworks role, the body is very good indeed, interior was very clean.

So, first job was to remove the ply panels and floor and give it a cleanup inside, then started with sound deadening tiles, insulation and a new floor, I used rockwool battens and 7mm self adhesive foam for insulation and foil bubble for the floor under the new ply. Shortly followed by the bed frame, aluminium angle rails were bolted to the vans side ribs, then a timber frame fastened down to the rails, the reason I went half height with the bed, and used the 7mm foam insulation on the top half was to gain bed length. Then got o Then got on with building out the underside of the bed, space for the fridge in the middle, this is a tough box so can be used as a step up onto the bed, and started on the wiring and plumbing.

Next job was to clean up the wiring, add the 240v hookup which is hidden behind the back bumper and fit the water tank, I have a 32ltr cold tank with internal fill point above the fridge, a 10ltr hot water tank that runs off 240v or 12v, by a company called bobil vans, it's agreat piece of kit. So we have running hot and cold water, 260ah of battery power for lights, charging phones etc, a b2b charger from the vans alternator, a diesel night heater and of course a gas hob and sink. The kitchen pod is 900mm high so comfortable to stand at. I still need to fit some solar but waiting on the weather warming up a bit.

So, to the reason I think it suits the stormtrooper name, its short, boxy and white! The wheels were terrible, narrow and tucked way under the van, but alloys aren't available due to the massive centre bore of 89.1mm. I found that porsche cayenne were the same 130mm pcd, but the centre bore was something like 73mm, I found a cheap set of genuine bbs turbo wheels and looked at their suitability for a bit of surgery! There seemed to be plenty of meat around the centres so onto the cnc. . So finally, with tinted side windows, wind deflectors and 18" wheels, it looks like it could be a suitable transport for the starwars stormtrooper.

Well done. I'd be reluctant to use that carpet stuff as I've seen how it goes when it gets old, it turns into dust. Maybe they have solved that problem now.

That all looks super neat. You've made a brilliant job of it.
Is the load rating of those alloys ok for the weight of the van? Not trying to be one of 'those' people, just didnt want it to be a potential issue that you weren't aware of. It looks fairly compact so probably fine.

The 2006 cayenne weighs 2200kg, I weighed the van and with 2 people and half a tank of diesel it came out at 2300kg, that's with all the gear installed, should be fine! Cheers.

Great job. I guess the TV is a matter of personal taste. Thanks grizz, the tv isn't permanent, it's for the winter nights when it's just too cold or wet to sit out! It's good to have options, just cause it's there you don't have to use it, if it's not there you don't have a choice. Portable HD lets you watch movies, can be used as a monitor for phone/internet etc, given our normal summer weather I'd keep it. Nice job on the van looks great, not to big/small, not obvious from the outside what it is, looks to be very usable.

Nice van and the conversion looks great. Not an abvious choice of base vehicle which I like The scene-tax on anything VW (Crafters still seem decent value but are creeping up) is crazy. I've been looking at Ford/Iveco welfair vans to convert. They are a pretty cheap alternative and have all the electrics, hot&cold water, cooking and loo/shower already provided. Very utilitarian but a low miles looked after one seems excellent value.
