What's available? Say I wanted over 100 RON... is it possible to get, cheaply? I know you can get 98 RON Super Unleaded but are there alternatives? I've heard Touloene (sp?) is a good octane booster but I've also heard it's pretty carcinogenic and maybe wouldn't be nice to carry around in the boot and use. That crazy BMW running on 110 RON E85 got me thinking about octane, it's not really for anything specific at the moment, I'm just wondering what's out there...

we use nos octane boost in our r33, suposidely ups the rating by 7 points, woteva it does it allows us to run higher boost without engine knock when we need a bit more power, rolling road proven in our case, tho have seen other tests where it makes little or no diffrence tho its usually tested in lower powered non turbo cars

Interesting, cheers guys. Would be nice to run 12psi boost on a 9:1 CR engine! Just thinking out loud really, more planning and no doing as usual! ;D

Erm... It is very toxic and VERY explosive, has a flashpoint of about 4 degrees C. I wouldn't fancy having it kicking around my garage...

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

So is petrol I think your flashpoint info is wrong. As it needs a HEATER to atomise adequately to use in an engine in higher concentrations. I know of a couple of skyline guys that use it with no problems Just checked hte flashpoint info, you are correct. But its still used without problems Just have to treat the stuff with respect

So if i lumped some Toluene into something standard. Say my Metro. I should expect a bang? Or nothing atall as it won't work?

no bang. no nothing. Increasing octane doesnt do anything unless you are unable to use peak torque ignition timing before you add the booster and then adjust the timing to suit. The peak torque timing will be a little advanced from where it usually is running toluene too as it burns more slowly. Info on this thread: www.gtr.co.uk/forum/upload/74598-toluene-so-far-so-good.html?highlight=toluene

Hmm, interesting. I'd read that Toluene was carcinogenic, but then so is Benzene and we all sniff plenty of that at the pumps!

AFAIk tolly isnt carcinogenic, but benzine is. Both are used in pump fuel already.

But that's why BenzBoy's asking I guess....
