EXTERIOR
‘Loads better’ as the original sales brochure boasts for the all-new Maxi 2 in 1980 which is certainly the case with this beautiful low mileage example! The stunning Ember Glow, (Code CMN), paintwork boasts a deep uniform shine and all factory panels are in amazing condition. The door shuts and seam lines are in superb order as is the underside having been preserved by Protectol Gold Seal rustproofing applied when the car was brand new. There are some light paint blemishes and touched in marks visible upon close inspection and minor pitting to the chrome door handles. The finish to the matt black bumpers, correct for a post 1981 car, is perfect and the grille badge has been changed to an earlier version. The L.R. Harvey Leyland Cars supplying dealer number plates, Triplex Laminated windscreen sticker and Gold Seal rear screen sticker remain fitted. An almost inconceivable rare survivor against unfavourable odds and very special.
INTERIOR
The Maxi always was a spacious and super comfortable car and this plush HL model is no exception. The fully reclining front and rear seats are famous for transforming into a double bed with vast luggage space. The seats are upholstered in original Cropped nylon cloth, (Code AAL) with matching door cards showing some slackening. The deep-pile wall-to-wall carpets are very clean and fully intact as is the headlining. The rear parcel shelf often prone to damage is in remarkable condition. Traditional British Leyland craftsmanship is evident with the matt walnut veneer fascia and crackle finish plastic as well as the instantly familiar BL switchgear. The boot area is very clean with no wear to the carpet and a few tiny marks to the delicate side panels. The jack and wheel brace is present in the factory black plastic bag. Wonderfully nostalgic and guaranteed to amaze onlookers!
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Powered by the British Leyland 'E' Series 1748cc overhead camshaft engine fitted with a single SU HS6 carburettor producing 72bhp at 4900rpm, the mechanics are simple and cost effective to run and maintain. A very clean and presentable engine bay is factory original with inner wing spot welds clearly defined as well as all factory plates, Unipart labels and inner wing chassis stamp remain clearly visible. A partial stainless-steel exhaust system is fitted to give a lovely exhaust note and the five-speed manual gearbox operates perfectly to offer great cruising capabilities.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Full width HL specification styled wheel covers are fully intact with no cracks and correct black wheel nut covers. Four new premium Uniroyal RainExpert 165/80 R13 tyres were fitted in February 2023. The servo assisted braking system with discs upfront operate well and the Hydragas suspension system is in fine order with no leaks.

The original Austin service booklet and all handbooks, guides and dealership literature are present along with two original sets of keys and a 1981 Maxi 2 sales brochure. A box file holds receipts and invoices as well as a workshop manual and membership documentation for the Austin Maxi Club.
