still not mot’d but i did tell him there was no rush. pauly22 that was reason .. every nut and bolt even body shells can be bought i have always liked the shape of these and can’t wait to get my hands on it and make it mine with a few mods already got a shopping list of parts i’d like to lower and make it handle a little better. so the seller has lots of time to fix the car to get it through an MOT?

Good choice. If I was buying another classic I would choose something that has loads of cheap parts available, especially repair panels, and probably look for tax and mot exempt too. I'm too old now to wait months or years for a rare bit of trim to come up on ebay and be relieved it's not completely knackered and 'only' £30 when the price of brand new classic Beetle parts is crazy cheap. Good call, but just bear in mind, with Beetles, the cheap parts tend to be poor in quality. A few of the cheap bits on my Beetle (Brazilian wheel cylinders for example) were leaking again in a few years. That's affected the BL parts supply. The Quality is variable from part to part. Stag steering rack gaitors for example are pretty poor, as are the fan viscous couplings. I can't say I like my M3 parts prices but at least the quality is good, thus not leaving me running around in circles with replacing the same bits again .

A lot of the pattern stuff for modern cars is just as bad if not worse, I've had control arm and drop link ball joints fail within a year on supposedly OEM quality parts. Mazda are great, on our 25 year old MX5 you seem to be able to get most parts from Mazda still and they are not ridiculously expensive either.

well i have been told that it will be ready this week the guy i am buying it from has completed the recommissioning work delayed due to an operation and his new job as race mechanic has taken him here and there Daytona and Spa amongst other race tracks. so between that and me saying i’d rather he didn’t rush any work and everything is 100% it’s finally time to think about getting it home and making it mine. still looking at wheels as the first mod as it’s the easiest and as much as i don’t want minilites the idea of flat black wheels does appeal then i saw these. mmmnnnn i may even try this treatment with a set of cheap/old slot mags whilst waiting for “the right wheel” to show up after that will be the suspension p.s. i have purposely bought a slow car as i can’t be trusted in a fast one ha ha if i need speed i can jump on the motorbike

I watched a video on YouTube the other day of a guy with an RB lowered on Scimitar alloys, looked really good...
...however, I now can't find it!
Guy had a beard and long hair, IIRC? And talked about previously owning a Skyline or something? Sorry!

Triumph Stag 5 spokes might work nicely. apparently clearance issues with the stag wheels so there is the MGB LE wheel much the same look used on the last edition mg’s

yes! now i do like the look of these missed a set on here a few months ago for £250 to buy new they are £170 each! wow! 2nd hand they are very elusive… apparently better fit in the 5.5j than 6j as rear wheel arch clearance comes into play unless you unbolt everything and recentre the axle and fit a panhard rod (which i will) to eliminate any tyre/arch rub

And talked about previously owning a Skyline or something? Sorry! so they are very like the mgb v8 wheel made up of a steel rim with an alloy centre i believe again scimitar is slightly wider thanks for all the suggestions i have looked at most wheel ideas i can see me having 2-3 sets and fit what ever mood i am in !!!

the mg has finally been out on its first test drive , the guy selling it has already taken it 50 miles and identified some more fuel pipes to replace and one of the carbs is sticky.
which is all now a moot point as my life is now on hold …… just been told my job is in consultancy review to be made redundant !
bit of a kick in the teeth i jointed this company after 33 years with BT/openreach and thought i at least had 5 -7 years before our fibre optic build was complete.
so i have less than 2 months before i will be out of work…
told the wife to cancel our california trip in August and i let the guy know the purchase of the car will also not be going ahead .. gutted to say the least .
