Hi All
So brought this back in August- love an e36 Touring, always wanted an e36 M3 so this seemed the ideal solution. Following buying this i sold by E36 328i Touring and my E46 M3 cab - so actually seemed a sensible solution. This is my main daily.
The car was converted back in 2011 with a thread on m3cutters back then and Total BMW feature in 2012- see below. Believed to be one of the first EVO Touring conversions.
The car has had a few owners since the conversion (they guy that build it moved it on soon after the feature), I purchased it from an owner of a couple of years, each have done a few bits so the specification differs from the original feature- the most painful part being the heated vaders are long gone!!
So has the engine, box, diff, clocks, rear subframe, brakes etc all from the EVO, all fitted into a 328I shell, with all genuine sport bits fitted.
Last owner changed from coil overs to B12 with Eibach Pro-line - however rear sits a bit low (springs are incorrect (13mm shorter than correct part number that should be used), and mountings are worn so will be changing these.
The car is in pretty good condition, lots of history for the doner car, than this one after, lots of bills etc. Bodywork is very good for age and underside is also better than most- jacking points all strong, not been welded anywhere so pretty happy. I believe i got a great deal on the purchase also (only 2k more than i sold the 328I for!)
Took the car straight for an MOT, emissions was a big issue- so to resolve this i have had a new flexi welded into the manifold, and removed the Miltek de-cat centre section and installed a genuine BMW pair of cats off a 60k mile evo (a great find i thought)- emissions now exactly as they should be, and car running much better. All gaskets inc manifold replaced also. Exhaust took a big hit on way to the garage from a rock that fell off a skip lorry in front of me!
The only other bits carried out so far is a full service inc fuel filter etc etc, new backplate to the rears, new engine mounts, new scuttle cover and installed the newly refurbished sport seats from my 328I as this only had SE seats when purchased. Various trim clips, button blanks and small niggly bits sorted too.
Took to BMR for a check over- so have a small list of items to work through- however feedback was she pulled well and gearbox etc all felt good/ strong.
Next item is to raise the rear a little using new spring bushing and correct springs if need be, then look into the front suspension as only 328i spec rather than m3 evo (assume the additional weight of the block is causing the 328I set up to be a bit harsh). couple of oil leaks to resolve also.
