Back when I decided to sell my my Chrysler Sebring convertible in early 2020 I was left with only my 944 as my mode of transportation. As I didn't want to use the 944 as my daily, I needed something else. I wanted something that was spacious enough to throw car parts in and it had to be quick enough to be fun and reliable enough to use it as my daily for my daily communte. I also didn't want a diesel. I did some research on cars that could fit the bill and originally looked at Skoda Octavias, VW Passats and Opel Insignias. While they are all decent cars, I've read a lot of negative things about their engines. I expanded my search to other brands - Mazda 6, Renault Laguna, Peugeot 508 but ultimately ended up looking at Mondeos. The Ecoboosts seemed pretty reliable and contrary to the Mazda, Renault and Peugeot they are actually pretty easy to find without having to travel to the other end of the country. Well, at the end of January 2020 I found this one an hour away. Ford Mondeo Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost 203 hp / 300 NM PowerShift DSG transmission Brisbane brown metallic As it's Titanium spec it's got all the stuff I wanted plus more, like partial leather seats, heated seats, cruise control, a/c, PDC, heated windshield and more. When I bought it, it had only 96.500kms on the clock. I drove it a few months like this until I grew tired of the genitalia-looking wheels and got myself some nice OEM 8x19s. Drove it for another year like this and in October 21 I was finally fed up with the super cheap looking silver interior plastics and hatched a plan to make it look better. I've always loved wood in car interiors and there even was OEM wood available for these - but to say it looks even cheaper than the silver would be a gross understatement. I decided to vinyl wrap the silver trim with some 3M Di-Noc vinyl which is normally used in architecture settings and such. Before: Out with the trim... And start wrapping. And back into the car. A month later I installed a china Android headunit as I wanted a decent solution to run Google Maps for navigation purposes and the car literally has no spots where you can mount a phone without it looking silly. Maps: Spotify: As I had sold the original 18s I needed some wheels for winter - I settled upon some Mondeo Mk5 8x18s. I think they suit the car very well.

This April I got the summer wheels back on with some new tires and of course gave them a good clean inside and out beforehand. Scored some basically new Kumho Ecsta PS71 as the seller ordered the wrong size for his car and so I got them for super cheap. Really satisfied with how they ride as well. In September this year I finally grew tired of the SUV-looking ride height and set out to do something about it. A bunch of stuff arrived: - new Ford badge - H&R 40mm lowering springs - Eibach Spacers 20mm front, 25mm rear - new ball joints - a rear view camera (that I still haven't fitted...) First the badge. Then it was time to tackle the suspension. After I had gotten the first strut back together with the new spring, I was going to... ...change the ball joints. I could not get the original ones out of the control arm and so ended up ordering new control arms. After the suspension was in I stuck the spacers on and mounted the wheels back on. Last month then the rear brakes needed doing, badly! So I ordered new discs and pads for the rear, fronts were still good. To get everything looking a bit fresher, I decided to paint the calipers as they were looking pretty ugly and were pretty much on display with both the summer and winter wheels. I then also stuck on the winter wheels as well. And that's where we're at today. All in all I can say the car is a great daily and has been very reliable so far. In the end I did not NEED to buy the car, as a month after I bought it my company basically switched to permanent home office (the benefits of working in IT) and so the car has seen very few miles - I think right now I'm at around 123.000kms. Would I have bought it if I knew that I wasn't really going to need it? I don't know. Probably not, I would've probably chosen something older. That said now that I have it, it's proven to be a great daily and I really like it and do not regret buying it.

Very handsome car. My brother had one (his was a turd to be fair) but I was always impressed at the sheer volume of space inside.

Very handsome car. My brother had one (his was a turd to be fair) but I was always impressed at the sheer volume of space inside. Yeah, I was a bit wary at first because I had heard some mixed things about Fords, but so far I can say it's been pretty much bulletproof. The only issue it has is that the buttons for the cruise control are very hit and miss. I've already cleaned them with some contact spray and compressed air and that made them work a bit better, but still not perfect. But this being the only issue so far I can tolerate it. Been enjoying all your threads. I really like what you did with the wood on this. Got a link to the product at all? Thanks! Glad someone is enjoying them, I'm sometimes a bit unsure because of the relative lack of responses, but I still keep posting as I love reading this forum. Here's a link to the product overview on 3M's page: www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/architectural-design-UK/surface-finishes/di-noc-films/It comes in LOADS of finishes and there should be some PDF catalogues on the site to download. I had to order it through a vinyl specialist shop. I don't know if the availability in the UK is any better, afraid you'll have to look into that yourself! nice subtle mods i really like the wood wrap that really changes the interior for the better and the spacers with the lowering gives a great stance nice work Thank you!

I quite like these, they're not a bad car to drive. You should be able to bump the power up a bit with a remap, my favourite 2.0 Ecoboost powered thing, the S Max Titanium 240 or whatever they call it are a proper hooligan car when required.

It's a pleasure to read one of your threads. Those are some really sympathetic touches you have done to the car, which work very well. As always, it's the small things which make quite a difference Very handsome car. My brother had one (his was a turd to be fair) but I was always impressed at the sheer volume of space inside. I still remember when these came off. Folks thought these looks svelte, with some I think, reckoning they looked like a family Aston. However, it was not enough to make German car owners come away from their cars. The Mk3 is more fun and engaging to drive. These however, are more grown up, are still fun down a backroad, and are massive. It's the only car I've had where a 6 foot friend has sat in the back. Even the E Class couldn't quite come as close. I'm in agreement there. It's one reason why I've not put my E91 up (for now, unless I get the feeling to put it up, albeit, I do have a dailies thread up, for some cars I fix for the family). If we are playing devil's advocate, we could say it is retro, mainly for a number of simple reasons -The Mondeo as we know it is now dead -Family cars have been a dying breed for a very long time now. From being a car that you'd fight over in company car parking lots, they're now a car folks wouldn't be seen dead in, for the fear of coming across as a dad or an 'old man'. I actually can't think of the last time I saw a sub 5 year old non SUV family car of this size. -The tech now is dated and old. Step from one of these into a 72 plate Golf, and the tech improvements and dating of things really comes to mind. The Converse for example really seems dated compared to what the new cars have. The 69 plate Evoque my parents had really brought this home, as did a Disco Sport HSE I drove for work. I suppose, we're getting old. Anyway, I may be a little biased. I do love a Mk4. Our family has had a number of these, including -A 2008 2.5T Ghia Saloon -A 2008 2.5T Titanium Estate. The latter was a strange car. It was not a Tit X, but it had alot of options, with the ones of note being -Full electric seats up front -Adaptive Cruise Control with Hill Assist -Converse+ Dash -Adaptive Halogen lights, with cornering lights, ala Citroen DS However, it had -No Keyless Start ; the Ghia did -No heated seats It was an ex Police car, so it did have other bits done to it as well. We owned it from 2015 to 2021, where I owned it personally from 2019 onwards. It's now with a friend, living in Europe with the car. My dad now has an 11 plate Mk4.5 Titanium X, which looks to be an ex Ford Demonstrator, again with some options I've never seen on other cars before, including -Blind Assist -Speed Limiter function -Cornering Lights -PowerShift Dual Clutch 'box Like yours, that's Lunar Sky in colour. Definitely not brown! A few shots of the now gone estate. These photos are now 7 years old of that car. Mad! To think back then, we paid £3.5k for the car in 2015.

Keep it going Dr.AK - This is a 2000 onwards area. There are a bunch of us in here. Also, remember that the ethos is something interesting regardless of age. I'm posting up about my 2022 car in my thread as I think people find it interesting. Also, I've seen nobody giving this generation Mondeo this type of elegant tweaking. I'm thinking Vignale which I always find interesting when one passes me. Keep it up ;-)

275bhp with a stage 1 remap, big jump on the 204ps model as its hardware is identical to the 240ps model.

I really quite like this, not a fan or fords so Mondeo's fall under nah category. Nice to see one done with some thought put into the style rather than, throw lots of tat at it and call it a show car approach we seem to get over here. Top marks!

I love this as a daily.
With the lows I actually prefer the 18's.
Quite fancy one of these in 2.5 flavour for all the 5 cylinder noises.
Good job. I will be watching.

Never really been interested in Mondeos, they arent that popular here and just kinda blend in. Yours looks really good though and I never expected the vinyl "wood" to look as good as it does.

You should be able to bump the power up a bit with a remap, my favourite 2.0 Ecoboost powered thing, the S Max Titanium 240 or whatever they call it are a proper hooligan car when required. I can't say that a remap isn't tempting! It's a pleasure to read one of your threads. Those are some really sympathetic touches you have done to the car, which work very well. It's the only car I've had where a 6 foot friend has sat in the back. Even the E Class couldn't quite come as close. Thank you! And agreed, it's all in the details! I've not driven a Mk3 so far, but I can vouch for the Mk4 being grown up yet still fun. Now with the H&R springs even more so - dare I say it, I can even push it around some corners with similar speeds to my Porsche. It's more planted than it has any right to be. And agreed on the size - I've spent a few nights laid out in the back with the seats folded down, ideal camper car. Just throw a few blankets and a sleeping bag in there and you're set and it's very comfortable actually. Keep it up ;-) That's pretty much my thinking - anyone who's into retro cars surely can't be driving something so boring as their daily that nobody would like to hear about it? As the responses prove, I think. 275bhp with a stage 1 remap, big jump on the 204ps model as its hardware is identical to the 240ps model. Yeah, I've heard that's possible and really would like to do this. I'm a bit wary though as I've heard some things about the Powershift transmissions not being up to the task?! I really quite like this, not a fan or fords so Mondeo's fall under nah category. Nice to see one done with some thought put into the style rather than, throw lots of tat at it and call it a show car approach we seem to get over here. Top marks! Thanks! And yeah, it's the same as you describe it here in Germany. I'm on a Facebook group for German Mondeo owners and the majority of the stuff there is... well let's just call it 'chavs with babies so they need a bigger car'. I love this as a daily. With the lows I actually prefer the 18's. Quite fancy one of these in 2.5 flavour for all the 5 cylinder noises. Good job. I will be watching. Thanks! Yeah, I'd have loved a 5-cylinder as well, but as far as I'm aware they were only available in the pre-facelifted ones and to be honest I really don't like how the pre-facelifted ones look. They look positively bland compared to the facelift cars. I'm actually really growing on the 18s as well - not so much in terms of size, but in terms of looks. Might need to look into some sporty 5-spokes in 19" for summer... some fifteen52 Chicanes would be quite cool, I think. Maybe one day... for now it's time to pour all my hard earned money into my 944. Never really been interested in Mondeos, they arent that popular here and just kinda blend in. Yours looks really good though and I never expected the vinyl "wood" to look as good as it does. Thanks! Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the vinyl as well. I had only ever seen some vague mentions of it on some old forum posts I found through googling with the image links all dead, so wasn't entirely too sure until held it in my hands. Really pleased I did it though.
