I've been been looking for an old Land Cruiser for years halfheartedly, I really wanted a pickup but they go for crazy money. I'd driven them for years in the middle east and Africa and always liked them, for some weird reason. I'd had a few 100 series and didn't want something so big again so started looking for an LJ70, prices vary and condition more so, they like to rust. Anyway, I found this one on a mountain in deepest Wales, went for a look and decided to have it. Decided not trailer it the 8 hours back to Newcastle so had it collected and it arrived last night. Spent a couple hours on it this morning, stripped the interior out for a cleanup and started making a list of bits and pieces to sort out. Service, timing belt, brakes etc

I've been collecting parts over the last month and finally had a weekend at home from worm to make a start. Got the interior removed to assess if welding work was needed, one little 50p sized to fill The filler neck is rotten so dropped the fuel tank to fit a new one. Found a few connectors on the tank have rotten out so will be refurbish the tank and replacing the fuel lines The brake drums off and found both wheel cylinder are leaking so have ordered replacements. Once they get here I'll replace the rear shoes. Next up will be dropping the axles and radius arms to replace all bushes and get the radiator out to send away for recoring

Managed to get a few hours in the garage yesterday, got the axle out and the arms. Dropping the axle off for blasting tomorrow, a bit of welding to do on the bump stop pads and then it will be getting powder coated along with some bash plates and arms Still collecting parts, got all I need now for the diesel tank to go off for refurb this week

A beauty! We ran an ‘89 FJ80 (here in the US) from 96 to 2001 as my wife’s chariot. It was such an honest, capable and faithful machine.
Yours is lovely. That rear axle is very stout.
Best, John

Got the axle back, bit of welding to do on the spring seats and bump stops. I don't think these can be bought so will have to remake them

Just found this thread - nice project, bookmarked. How the heck that isn't more rusty is amazing - especially for a wet Welsh car!
Parts from Pakistan sounds interesting, is there a big fan base/parts supply there?
