I have a '97 Legnum automatic - similar transmission to many other Mitsubishis of the era I believe.
Clearly there's a spin-on filter on the top of the transmission which gets replaced periodically, but today I notice that there's another filter as well - the panel type that one normally associates with being in the sump of an auto 'box (labelled 28020 on the parts diagram, bottom left corner)
With no sump at the bottom of the Mitubishi 'box, the panel filter appears to be quite inaccessible, requiring removal of the transmission, so the question is... should it be replaced as a service item, or only during major transmission overhaul??
