Those who know me on here know I do enjoy a project. In fact, I'm fairly open to the point of obsessive with sharing that on YouTube.. Well, I've had my ups and downs with cars over the years, some wins and some losses, but during Covid I got a pretty decent opportunity to hide in a unit for most of it and rekindle that love. I also go a project finished, my TVR Chimaera, and the satisfaction that came from properly completing a resto was sparked in me again. That being said, I also promptly fell out of love with the TVR as it soon became obvious the tinkering was done and there was WAYYY more money in it than I felt comfortable driving around.. So a plan was hatched... Now I know I have been criticised for only making video content on here. I will try to add more in the way to pictures to this if you promise to at least have a watch! So it's Supra time (again) As resto's go, I'm in the deep end with this one...

Saw a video recently about a guy buying one of these and he made a point of saying "the bonus was the dash wasn't cracked" I thought at the time how bad could it be. Really surprised by your picture of the dash, its like one of them videos where they ask is it real or cake?!?! Looks like a lovely layer of sponge Look forward to seeing more

So the car got delivered and I wasted no time. I knew for a fact it would be rough, that much was clear from the pictures. What did worry me was a couple of points:
1. Its clearly been an Auto from the factory. No biggie for me, its manual now, but given the fact that its clearly had a "drift life" towards its last days in Japan, I was concerned that the box that had been put in was a W58 (this was the weaker N/A box that still can fit a 1jz)
2. Its rough life would mean dents, chips and other associated pain that would result in the only decent reason for buying an import in this condition; a clean shell, would be pointless.
So, first job is onto the ramp:
As you can see, its swings and roundabouts. I'm going to have my work cut out but its nothing horrific.
Time for a list!

So we have a few updates on the Supra
Following the inspection and tweaks, I knew I had a misfire to address. Made sense to start there, so I got in about the engine to see what could be fixed there:
Then, as I also knew the clutch was a clear and present issue, and with off the shelf upgrades available there it was a no brainer to get right into some improvements..
...then it all went wrong, as you see. As most "content makers" would agree, a big issue is just more content to make. That may be, but it would be nicer if the problems were just *slightly* smaller than finding that....

Great choice Tommy the MK3 is my favourite Supra, nearly bought one back in the 90's missed out on that and ended up buying a Silvia 1.8 Turbo (S12) instead, great car. I remember seeing Todd's one at Fimmo's unit must have been 15? years ago it was a cracker, I'm sure this one will end up as good 👍👍

As you may have seen from my other threads, its been a busy few months. However the Supra is still very much on my to do list, so here's a deeper dive on this engine problem...

This should note the last of the strip down.
Coming next, I think I need to start spending some proper pennies...

And just like that, pennies were spent. A lot of them.
Many more still to be spent, but its a start. Always wanted a proper forged J engine...

Damn, I seem to have let my thread lapse again... Not that I suspect it matters as the interaction on these seems to have died since I switched to video. Nonetheless my OCD demands I get things up to date:
Here's the last of the head work getting rounded off, and as of last weekend:
The long block is assembled! Up next, we will get all the wildly excessive early 90s ancillary nonsense onto the engine again and FINALLY move onto the car again!
