Ladies and Gentleman, allow me to introduce The Mighty Getz.
Before I explain how it came to acquire this name, Some backstory;
I went through a turbulent time about 12 years ago. Lost a lot, including my driving license. Because I sent my photocard license to be updated...I urge you to take several copies of that important card before you post it off. I was far from alone too. I discovered others, some who came close to losing their livelyhoods. Highlights included being offered a temporary 12 month license. But you can't do lessons whilst you have a license...(I felt like Captain Picard when he told me that nugget).
No motorbikes or use of a car made Lplates an unhappy soul, and it took sometime before I could get myself together again.
Meanwhile, the Getz sat on the drive. For nearly six years! It was the MiL's car and she gave it to my better half to encourage her to drive. She has little interest. Doesn't like other drivers. Quite fond of karting though!
It was green when we started cleaning it (used cif power and shine kitchen to begin the "restoration", works too!). 6 hours later it looked fresh (no pics sadly, we both regret no taking any). Some fresh latex on each corner, new wipers then dropped off at the station after making sure bulbs etc worked properly.
It passed first time!!1
Couple of advisories, but nothing major. It was great at first. Independence again. But then it started to annoy me because of its shabby handling. Like a fool I let this cloud my opinion of it. So it decided to educate me.
Amongst other things it;
Always started first time.
Moved my Sons home.
Took 4 adults camping.
Off roads like a champ due to the groud clearance.
Costs peanuts to run.
Can be left in 3rd as a semi auto (pulls from 13-69mph).
Fetched a motorcycle from Doncaster (about 150 miles return).
Coped with 20k miles the 12 or so months after the sit on the drive.
So after a year of this education, I bought a focus cmax (as you do). The Getz was passed onto the non motorcycling son (I have twins). And again its sat doing nothing. Motorcycling sons then GF used it for a month but other than that, its just been sat waiting loyally again. For about 18 months...
Lad still hasn't passed test. Keeps failing the theory (8+. No comment, other than my money is on Teaboy finishing that tank before my lad lad is legally driving).
Mate asks the other day if he can use the Getz for a couple of months as he will be between cars. Lad says its okay, so its time to wake her up...
Reconnected the battery, jumped in and turned the key. Glow plug light comes on, and then off, last turn...slow. But she fires up. Couldn't have been too healthy, as it was loud for the first five or so seconds,but once the oil was everywhere it should be, she quietened down.
An idea of what lurks everywhere...Some whoppers too
Another handy Getz feature. Wheel trims you can't lose. However,when you need all four wheels off, the centre caps are dangerous places after sitting in my garden. Not only false Widows, but where I live we get Tube Web spiders. They are aggressive and can get quite large. I've been bitten enough times already to know not to play. Sorry, no pics due to leaping about ensuring they are nowhere near me.
Off for the MoT! Will it pass? Will it fail? Is it rotten? Does the MoT man turn into Peter Parker?
