UVA Fugitive 1972, Correctly registered, tax & MOT exempt.
Selling after 20 years of ownership.
Its correctly registered, Make UVA, Model Fugitive. Its also not a Q registration and is tax and MOT exempt. Very rare indeed to find all of that.
Its ready for use on and off road, built with the parts you really need if you really want to use one off road, especially the Bus gearbox and IRS rear end which gives 10 inches of suspension travel.
The bus gearbox is ideal if you plan on future high power modifications.
The shocks all round were made to measure by Spax, the rears mounted above the axle to prevent damage.
The front suspension is Beetle Ball Joint based and works very well indeed.
It is very capable of jumping with this setup.
The brakes are Beetle front and Bus rear, which is perfect for the rear weight bias, it brakes very well indeed on the road.
It has Fiddle Brakes (Steering brakes) fitted, you can turn around on a sixpence and if you loose grip at one side off road you can use the fiddle brakes to bias the torque to the side with grip. It’ll go pretty much anywhere and it climbs well too.
Its got great ground clearance to be seriously practical for British off road, and a floor and rails underneath to protect the important bits from damage if you ground it.
Its got security devices, to be explained to the future owner.
There are quite a few parts that are Stainless Steel, including the bumper bars, boot/tool box, dash pod, firewall, hot air feed etc.
The engine is an AB code 1300 twin port, it runs very well and has no carb icing issues due to having the correct filter and hot air feed. The carb has been re-bushed and sealed. The correct thermostat and air flaps are all fitted and tinware to direct the air where it needs to be including over the thermostat. Some people will advise ditching all of this, that’s up to you.
It has doubled up engine mounts, both Bus at the top and Beetle at the bottom.
The mudguards and brackets can all be removed, they are all clamped on, no welded brackets, so if you want the open wheel look its easy…except that the current back lights are mounted in the guards so you will need to fit the lights of your choice.
The chrome on the rear wheels is shot, if you want a shiny car, chrome powder coat would be the answer. The tyres all have very deep tread.
All electrics work as they should, all driving controls are on the pod beside the wheel.
It’s the best V5 you could wish for, its built from the right parts, and its ready to go anywhere. It goes, handles and stops far better than you would ever expect and is brilliant to drive on the road as well as off. It needs nothing if you want to use it now, on the other hand its got lots of potential for putting your own mark on it, plenty of scope for tidying and polishing if that’s your thing. If Mad Max bad guys are more your thing then just add some dirt and go for it.
If you have questions please ask, having owned it for 20 years I should be able to answer.
The price is £6,500.
The spares pictured are thrown in for free if you want them, the engine is a 1200.
Collection is from Co Durham in the North East. You can either drive it home or it tows very easily with an A frame.
