I've got a speaker that does that every time someone knocks it over. I think as the speaker box hits the floor, the magnet carries a bit more inertia and tweaks the frame of the speaker itself so the magnet isn't central anymore. I just take the speaker out and tap it in the right place on a bit of wood which usually puts it back in alignment.

According to here: www.mig-welding.co.uk/hardox.htmStainless 309L can be used for welding Hardox steels without preheating, and the images on said page show a digger bucket and teeth welded in not dissimilar manner to your bucket. As the article points out - not great for gas axe removal. Apologies for lack of hyperlink - can’t seem to find it on the mobile browser version. ETA: forum magic has picked up the hyperlink and added it automatically 😊 Well that was a fascinating find thank you John , looks just like it .

I have a feeling that the voice coil might have shifted as the glue was drying. When I refoamed my sub, I removed the voice coil dust cover, and shoved thick paper "shims" all around it to make sure the cone was centred on the voice coil. I then cut off the old broken down foam, cleaned it all up and glued the speaker cone to the foam, and finally the foam to the chassis cage. Once dried, pulled the shims out and stuck the dust cover back on. I guess you might have to remove the glued joint from the cone to the cage, and reglue it?

It's was the weekend for firing up old HiFi then! I dropped off my old Quads for a revamp, not been used in 30 years or so and a local guy tested, serviced, repaired them for me. I unboxed my late dads Naim CD player and hooked it up: All sounding very "British". Lovely.

Some lovely equipment there (Quad & Naim), what's the turntable? looks like a SME arm.
One day I'm going to get my Pink Triangle turntable properly refurbished.

Some lovely equipment there (Quad & Naim), what's the turntable? looks like a SME arm. One day I'm going to get my Pink Triangle turntable properly refurbished. Quad 33, 303 and FM3. Quad 34 & 405-2. Thorens TD125 Mk II, SME 3009, Sure V15 III. Speakers are Tannoy Oxfords or Q Acoustic 2010i with REL Q100E sub. Naim CD5. I always hankered over a Pink Triangle when I was a kid with a Dual CS505.. Dad would not let me near his Thorens for fear I damaged it. Irony was after he died I put the Thorens into storage and when it came out, the motor appeared dead. £8 is RS, and some terrible soldering, and it worked again! I found a load of his business cards that he must have dropped down the plinth in the past. I'm privileged to own this stuff, and lucky. My Mum wanted to bin it or sell it/give it away after Dad died, but somehow I persuaded her that they would be better off with me.

Not very eco friendly the plinth is Rosewood, Linn Ittok arm, Ortofon MC10 moving coil cartridge. It's a very early one (~1985/6), I visited the Pink Triangle 'factory' to get the bearing replaced a long time ago but it needs doing again.

Hello again , well ,bit pooped this week , so bumbled around. to keep up a regular historical record ,here are two new wallpaper designs i found in the cupboards .. The one on the left smacks of the 20's to me , so i'm calling it "flapper" and the one on the right looks more 40's to me so i'm calling it "glenn miller" i think i may make a book with all these papers in . next i thought i would clean the fuse box and fit it at last .. bit of fairy liquid and sponge got to here .. pre ... fitted .. much neater . The big room is getting a little more finished , now i have the hi fi in the cupboard .. i then moved the picture so the lamp would spotlight it .. which brings that room to here .. the idea is to get a small sofa , sit it across ,and then with a nice fire going in here.. should be snuggy . What did i do next i hear the mid england convent of the purple glove chorusing out on the lane ? this .. yup , we have filterage and uv age .. i went with a swan neck chrome deco esque tap , to fit with the one there already . for a while it tasted a bit plastiky , but now its flavourless and better than tap water from the well. Something the roofing chap suggested , and i think it was suggested on here as well ,was painting the stained wall with white gloss , so , when i was painting the window i used up the leftovers on the wall .. two weeks now and no staining ,marrrrvelous . Since it was clear one day , i decided to drag out the flat tyres dead battery lawn mower and have a go .. its almost starting to look like someone lives here. other jobs done , ole yella digger pull to stop cable now working , that took a bit of freeing off . couple of fence posts put in to keep sheep out ,thanks to my nice friends from up the lane ,coming here and actually putting in the posts ! took apart the dyson to its bare bones , and washed and scrubbed it out , massive change ,it now whistles , and when i accidentally held it sideways , it closed an open window ....BAM ,,,just like that ....sucks better than a !@#* in a @%*$.... i think spring may be here ... hasta luigi regards robert

You've certainly made a big difference to the place, its all starting to look good, now springs on its way everything will grow like mad including the brambles/thistles/nettles etc etc! Thank you viva , its progressing faster then i expected now , which is a nice surprise , did have a little setback today . I had a rocker gasket leak on the mini , after taking it all apart to get the carb cleaned out , so,not having a new gasket , i took it off ,cleaned it , flipped it around so the leaky area was at the front , then sealed it with the x8 stuff , started it up , revved it ,all seemed good . went to go shopping today , 10 miles away , car was singing along . got to shop , smoke from under bonnet , whipped bonnet off , seemed ok ish , wiped off a litt'e bit of oil , and set off with my scoffies . got home , looked under bonnet though the gap near the screen ,,,flames . jumped out , as you do , rapidly pulled the split pins and luggage padlocks off the bonnet pins , and there was flame from bottom of engine to top of carb , increasing ,and roaring away . i jumped to the nearest puddle and scraped up a palm of muddy water , threw that on , did that 3 times , remembered a bottle of mineral water in the chapel , sprinted there , raced back , and threw the whole lot on the carb and exhaust/turbo .it finally went out . PHEW . i let it cool , then washed it all down with very soapy water ,rinsed it and restarted , these clips used to be shiny chromeyness .. all seemed fine , oh .... Apart from the torrey canyon underneath .. its now raining and I'm in the pole barn in a 40 mph gusts storm of fun . i get the wheelbarrow , and bring the jack and axle stands down from the top barn .. prop her up , spin her over , and spot the oil is coming from the turbo oil feed braided line , the fire had got hot enough the melt the liner . then ensued several hours of work , taking it all apart , to get to this banjo , which luckily just fitted a 17mm spanner on . need a new on of these .. and i already replaced his water pipe .. which had gone carbony . for the curious , the poxy gasket of doom, had slid in ,so opening up the gap to the oil/exhaust interface . like so . oh such fun . regards robert

If you do fit a fire extinguisher, which I'd also recommend, make sure you attach it to something.
I borrowed my brother's car once and he had one in the boot. It went off coming off a roundabout and FILLED the car with powder. It wasn't much fun.

Also having the fire extinguisher will 100% prevent any further such instances of the above, due to the inverse law of sod.
