hello chaps ,
asked to put up some of my new house malarky ,so here is the start of it all .
Having had a few farms fall through i ended up lodging at my sisters for NINE MONTHS ..phew .
then i found this place , pretty uncared for 1865 georgian/victorian farmhouse with a few acres of ,well ,basically ,nettles .
since 13th june i have been fixing a dead ring main dead kitchen lighting , and ferrying stuff up from 50 miles south ...in the poor old astra ,now on its 3rd k-seal and keeping below 3 psi of boost .7 trips so far about 5 to go ..
Veronica came over a couple of weeks ago , and luuuurves it .she has stripped off the wallpaper in the sitting room , its a classic 4 on 4 big window red brick number , and done tons of other work too.
the last few days have been involving the private pumping facility , and its determination to choose the hottest record breaking days of the decade to stop working and lea us with no water supply ....from friday .
luckily i had the previous owner , who has not actually lived here since 2012 , come over and show me how to prime it , and agitate the well pipe , to try to get it pumping ,with no luck , so we had to fill the toilet cisterns with water from the hot tank and have 2 inch deep baths in the 34c temperature ...oh ...we laughed .
next day , i took the entire 34mm plastic pipe out of the well ..to see if it had a foot valve on it , and lo and behold , it did ..
pumping house , corrugated iron ,it was like a scene from bridge over the river kwai working in the in 34c
foot valve..missing its filter ...
it also has a leaky connection , which i fixed with a rubber home made washer .
i then took apart the top of the pump releasing about 25 meters head of 100 meter long pipe , and cleaned up the valve faces , put it all together and ,after priming we had a working pump ....until that is the poxy foot valve popped above the well water and it sucked in a load of air for about an hour . it took up the next day to fill with 6 gallons of water , pull out the foot valve again to see if it had fallen off , give up , come back again yesterday , and take the well pipe off the pump and fill it direct instead of trickling in water to the bleed hole in the pump , to finally get some new puming action .phew .
however , a new problem occured , the lower taps in the hs work , but toilets and header tank for hot water no worky .
so today i filled the reservoir right to the top , and a bit water trickled into the header tank.. i can only assume the reservoir running totally empty has wodged a load of dirt down the feed pipe to the hs .
heres a half filled res..
next thing is to notice the pump appears to be going the wrong way round ,and i am trying to work out how to change direction ...
i think i swap the the red capacitor wire from the blue neutral to the brown pos post ? i am assuming this motor has a heavier gauge run winding and a lighter gauge start winding .
it running the wrong way means the oil is not fed to the big end , which makes sence since the big end sounds like a ladies AK47 ,and you can turn to top pulley 7cm diameter a third of a turn before the pump rod moves ...lucky i got a good pump off fb before i came here....so thats another job !
the rayburn is chock full of soot , and the barns need a lintel and a double door put in so i can wodge the cars in there , butwe are making a bit of progress .
hers a picture of a nice Georgian fireplace ..with a wood burner wedged in it .
any one with an idea on the motor windings please pipe up .
