So in May I bought this: It,s a 1991 Mercedes 190E with 188K on the clock and a 2.6 Manual swap (183K), Cosworth Body Kit, H&R springs and shocks, and OZ Futuras and lots of lovely new suspension and brake bits put on by BigKev30 on here. Love the car. I got it replaced the Alternator and Battery, fresh fuel and she fire right up and purred like a kitten. Drove it around the yard and apart from some rubbing on the front arches and a noisy gearbox (already described in the forsale ad) she seemed almost ready for MOT. However she's recently developed a no starting/poor starting, no idle fault. When she does run it's lumpy, misfirey, rich and no power. So I've been playing around with the old Bosch K jetronic. Adjusting the CO screw on the flow meter/fuel head hasn't helped. In fact I may have made it worse. So servicing the brakes and checking out the gearbox and clutch have gone on hold while I check out the fuel system from back to front. Plan is to: check and replace fuel filter (if necessary), check fuel pressure is in spec and adjust. Remove injectors and clean/replace them and the seals, clean the IACV, check the plate in the air flow meter is properly centred (it did get stuck at one point but I think that was my poor adjustment). I'm having naughty thoughts about 2 sets of Triumph 955i throttle bodies and a megasquirt/speeduino to run them, keeping the stock ignition. But I'm not well versed in the art of changing engine management so many nights of googling will be required before I take the plunge. Hopefully I can get the old Kjet functioning properly and have it MOT'd soon.

So here's what I'm dealing with today, the dreaded elderly Jetronic: Dizzy cap and rotor are new and clean Plugs be very sooty so I replaced with some new ones Worst plug was number 6 looked a little moist. Injectors don't look awful, which is a shame I was hoping they'd be all gummed and dribbley a smoking gun as it were Ruh roh, is that fuel or oil pooling in the inlet? Pulled the AFM and fuel metering head off and found this lovely split, I'm currently on sourcing a replacement rubber part. This is what I syphoned out of the inlet, its not fuel but its thinner than oil, its probably a mix of the two. I also cleaned out the IACV valve, though it wasn't badly gummed up, also the vac lines seem to be in one piece, FPR also holds vacuum. So I need a new boot for the AFM and some new injector seals though they weren't too bad really. Next step is to do some electrical testing of the valves etc, maybe try running with the cold start injector unplugged, also need to purchase a fuel injection pressure tester and find the OE values somewhere.

Bits have arrived: New rubber boot for the flow meter and 6x BOSCH injectors. Best part was I got these at my local motorfactors (a little more expensive than eBay but I get warranty and next day delivery) always worth trying a local place before eBay, I had to supply the part numbers as the reg brought up nothing. 6x injector seals are on the way. Vaseline, red rubber, or lithium grease to lube the seals? I read somewhere that vaseline is best but open to opinions.

Ah man, this car is very very cool. I looked at the advert for a long time haha glad to see the story will continue on here!
I had one of those crazy injection systems on my W124 wagon, after going through loads of checks it turned out replacing some random relay that I had dismissed as having anything to do with the car not starting actually fixed it.
Likely not related to what you are up against but it was very bizarre.

Man I do like a 190E. For me they're one of the best looking 80s saloons there is. The details aren't quite as crisp as, say, an E30 or a 505, but the proportions are just absolutely spot on. Not just the side-on profile but the ratio of width to height too (which is where it makes the E30 look a little narrow and tall).
Great purchase.

So here's what I'm dealing with today, the dreaded elderly Jetronic: Car looks fantastic, think I have the advert saved somewhere lol That picture right there would have me looking for an aftermarket solution than removes pretty much everything in the picture lol Something like this, kjetkillers.pl/en_US/c/mercedes-6cyl/42

I saw this and was sorely tempted but if I was doing an EFI conversion I'd want ITBs for that noise and potential gains of apparently 25whp. Though mostly noise and throttle response.

If you are considering going efi don't bother with any of the aftermarket stuff, the later m104 is a direct fit and will run on the merc ecu. OR bin the K-jet and fit a set of 6 bike carbs to the m103, lovely noise and you wont need an aftermarket ecu.

Yeah, once I've got this KE Jetronic up and running, I'm probably gonna go bike carbs/ ITBs with EFI. It's something I've always wanted to try and the noise is tremendous.

Just seen this thread, I'd seen the for sale ad when it was up and thought it was a lovely looking thing, the talk of bike carbs or itbs just makes it even better! Bookmarked
