I have bought a boat, with trailer, inboard engine, and out drive for £650, which will give you an idea of the condition. Its a Plancraft Sabre 17 foot power boat, when they collaborated with BMW, so its got an engine from a BMW 2002ti. The bad...........split in hull, engine seized, leg in unknown condition, trailer already collapsed on way home, interior missing.

Looks good. The hull should not be a problem with a modern epoxy resin repair.
That trailer looks like it was only intended for launch/recover i.e. not road going. I had a similar size Fletcher back in the 90's and the trailer was way beefier than that. In fact a second hand Fletcher trailer might be a good cheap option, it would suit perfectly.

I think the trailer is road going as it has suspension, though it is un-braked, I presume its limit is 750kg, which the boat might just come in at. The reality of a boat is that these things tend to get bathed in salt water, so imagine every bolt on your retro car is rusted solid, this is what I'm fighting against. The main decision is whether or not to keep it original with the in board motor, or go for an out board. Here is a pic of the wife looking really impressed with my latest purchase.

You’ve got to keep the inboard, otherwise what is the point?

If the trailer wasn't intended to be road going why would it have mudguards? Don't let the small wheels and light structure fool you. I did a 1000 mile journey with a (very) lightweight trailer on 8" wheels when moving house back in the '90s. The tow car was an ADO16.

Its not the small wheels, just the complete lack of bracing from the trailer axle all the way to the tow hitch and very little keel support for a longer road journey. There is normally something to avoid flex. No matter.
I would go to great lengths to keep the inboard, its what makes it special (regardless of BMW engine) otherwise with an outboard "its just another small speed boat"

Good news! The volt meter works. Seen here before removal from the dash.

Looks good, as expected not an outboard motor speed boat dash. Wheel might need some work...

looks a great project, I guess the biggest issue is the outdrive, fiberglass is easy to repair, shouldn't be to difficult to find some sort of 4cyl BMW engine to power it, but boaty bits make cars look a cheap hobby!

Slow progress, but now have un-seized the engine, and got it running. Very satisfying.

I missed this. Love a speed boat, especially those late 70s-80s era. I had a Fletcher Arrow with a Mercury 50 on the back. It was cheap. It went really well, but the trailer collapsed and I was naive as to how much fuel (and oil) those old 2strokes slurped.
Watching with interest.
One day I'll have another...

Good news on the engine, what's the stern drive looking like?

Haven't looked at the stern drive yet, but is complete and not seized and parts are available. Some fine tuning to be done on the engine yet, I have changed the alternator since I took those pics as that one was dud. I want to run it for a good couple of hours on the test rig at a couple of thousand rpm to simulate what it will be like in the real world for it. I have spent the bare minimum on this engine, about £100 on two sets of piston rings, head gasket, and carb gasket sets, but being an older engine, it probably isn't as fussy as a modern engine. If the test goes ok, I know that it will be worthwhile spending a bit more money on it then for things like plugs, leads, dizzy cap, points, condenser, fan belt, oil filter etc.

I'd be interested to see how the engine is marinised. Does it have a heat exchanger, or suck salt/lake water?

Two water systems, and three heat exchangers. Normal antifreeze/water going round block, pumped by normal pump on front of engine. Then there is what they call the raw water system. This comes up from a grill by the propeller (sea/river/lake water) to the raw water pump on the end of the camshaft on the head. It then goes to an oil cooler heat exchange between the filter and the block, then the second heat exchanger which cools the engine water, and finally is used to cool the exhaust manifold before joining the exhaust gasses and exiting under water.
