Not so long ago I bought a Ford Fiesta CTX. There was a reason. I don't now recall why exactly. It obviously seemed like a good idea at the time. I think it may be because the Fiesta CTX is Ford's implementation of the CVT transmission which popped up into "popularity" for a while in the early 1990s. I'd never owned a car with a CVT transmission, and discovered that I could change all that quite easily and cheaply as there was one for sale for like £300 not far from me, albeit with no MOT, but OTOH having fairly low miles and despite looking kinda down at heel it did look like it was a solid enough little thing. And lo! My CVT cherry has been popped. There were some MOT related things like a loose front wishbone and a couple of trivial things and some advisories and away I was in all the glory of 60BHP and no actual gears. Hooray. All CTX Fiestas come with the 1.3 HCS engine. Most of them seem to have been Motability cars or something. Mine was certainly a base spec car with no rear wiper, no radio, etc. Got it home and serviced it properly Then it was time to look at tidying the appearance up a bit BREAK OUT THE ELBOW GREASE But the rear arches were a little scabby, and the sills had been patched (well, its a 1990s Fiesta, right?) So in a fit of enthusiasm I bought a set of rear arches and a pair of full sills and popped the car over to the man they call Mopar Craig to sort out the work and the paint The rear valance was a bit gone through as well. Craig fabricated the bits needed here as well as the inner arches And then a little paint... And a set of cleaned up original wheel trims and its looking pretty OK now... So that's where we got since like February with it.

We had exactly the same Fiesta. Also a CTX. Same color too. It was immaculate. I loved it my wife hated it. For that reason it didn't stay long and was traded for a new Escort.

Yeah that transmission is something we can file under "acquired tastes" and "and then technology moved on"
Which is probably why I kinda like the weird ass little thing

You've done a great job of tidying that up. I notice you've made the bumpers more black - did you use a product or have you tried the hot air gun trick? The latter has given me some excellent results.

Polysol or something I think he calls it. It works well.

Looking good now. Assuming you spent several times the purchase price on de-grot and paint? I have a real affinity for this shape fiesta, not sure why?!? Maybe because the next generation ones looked a bit curse word? Slot mags are an inspired choice, but it needs to go down to meet them now

Thanks, its a fun little project. Hard to explain, but I have the Galaxie and whatever and it all seems very serious working on that and making "the right choices" but the Fiesta is just a load of fun. Its light relief as it were. I love the slot mags on it, I knew they would work but damn they work so well.

Well, I had a bit of a niggle that the front wheel nuts were not quite seating right somehow, so I've popped the Fiesta over to someone with precission measuring equiment to check the wheels for correct drilling and the hubs for correct stud alignment as I suspect its the studs in the hubs just a little out of whack. As a bonus I get to borrow a Suzuki Jimny as a runabout while its being done....

So the wheel fitment issue was resolved by careful measuring, 2 wheels had the recesses for the nuts different depth on 2. Seems someone had inserted washers in there, once removed all 4 nuts on all 4 wheels now seat correctly. Idle issues also resolved by replacing the ICV and TPS and now (touch wood) all seems good.
