Hi all I started a camper build on a Htundai i800 earlier this week. Its the first one of these and is quite different to the other vehicles I convert as its rear wheel drive. So far I have removed all the rear seats and stripped out the flooring. Removing the seats was a real nightmare as the bolts holding them dowm protrude throught the floor so were really rusted plus the heads are really soft so round off as soon as you put any torque on them. The new ply floor and flooring are down, the rock and roll bed has been trial fitted and I have started making the units. The rock and roll bed is going to need modifying as there's not enough head room to sit in it due to the high floor. Cheers - mike

Hi all
had a steady morning on this today. All the lights in the roof are now fitted and the roof lining has been refitted.
I have made and fitted the the kitchen unit door so that's finished now.
Tomorrow morning should see me making the templates for the wardrobe end panels.
Cheers - mike

I've been thinking of one of these myself or a Merc Vito due to the RWD. Did you buy a kit to fit it out ? Will watch with great interest.

hi there
I make all the units myself. Most of the kits you can buy are poor quality and need profiling to suit.

Hi all, have had a steady week on the camper. She's starting to come together now and the end is in sight. All the units are made apart from the wardrobe front panel and I have started the final fit out. I spent most of wednesday taking 75mm out of the height of the seat as there was virtually no head room, its better now but still snug. I'm away later for a week on my boat so no updates for a while. Cheers - mike

hi all got back onto this yesterday. I made and fitted the kitchen worktop and did the final fit of the kitchen. Spent most of this morning wiring up the 12v system so that's now finished. I have got a rescue mission to go on later so that's it for today. Tomorrow should see the 240v system fitted and checked and the wardrobe fitted. Cheers - mike

hi all had a steady morning on the camper and have now fully installed and tested the 240v system. She's currently hooked up with the heater on, once i'm happy that its performing ok I will finish installing the trim. This afternoon should see the wardrobe being trial fitted. Cheers - mike

I have been building campers for over thirty years on and off and enjoy the challenge. I worked as an operations planner for 30 years but retired at 50 due to poor health so now just potter about building and renovating campers and motorhomes. Cheers - mike

Interesting to see how mpvs are being used as base vehicles now, rather that traditional vans.
Great work as usual

How did you get on using the van in the summer ? Whats it like to drive etc and would you make any mods from what we saw, I'm 6-2 so would you recommend a lifting roof...I am very impressed with the standard of finish. Hope it all went well.

I missed this until today, really is a top notch conversion. We’ve got a wheelchair adapted Sedona which, iirc is similar to the i800 other than being fwd. The cut out for the wheelchair conversion is big enough that the mrs can walk up and down the back of it ok, and I only have to duck a bit. I’ve often thought you could make a great camper or dayvan out of it

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

hi there
the I800 are not really well suited to a camper conversion as they have a high rear floor due to being rear wheel drive. A Vivaro for instance has the same overall height but the floor is 6-8 inches lower. I have not converted a sedona but have driven a few and the are not a bad vehicle.
