I hope someone can help here. I have a Daihatsu 2.8 turbo diesel in my S3 Land Rover. I fitted this as a known runner to replace another Daihatsu engine about 6 months ago, and only trying to make it run now. It will start up ok and tick over, but it just won’t rev at all - just like the pedal wasn’t connected - it is ! I wondered if it was somehow pulling air. I don’t think so. I’ve bled all the injectors. I’ve pulled the hose from the turbo to intake in case there was a blockage there - no difference! I know very little about diesels ( except they are horrible stinky things ! Wish I’d fitted a Petrol right now ! Thanks in advance. Neil

Something inside the pump is probably seized.

How long have you ran it? My friend had the same problem. He put some injector/diesel system cleaner in it and just let it run. After a while it would start to rev a little bit and gradually it became better.

In order. If something inside the pump is seized, I don’t know what - but open to suggestions Fuel supply seems ok. It’s currently just sucking air direct into the inlet manifold, so turbo not involved It hasn’t run very much. I’ll invest in some diesel cleaner

Is anything exhaust side blocked? Check your tip to see how much is coming out.

Not sure if this will help, i had a B2500 Non turbo diesel a few years ago, on the pump was a Banjo bolt, inside was a tiny mesh filter, this was solid! took it out and just done fuel filter changes every 4 to 6 months, before i spent hundreds trying to fathom this out! If you don't have a set up similar to this, then it def' sounds either pump or injectors, but i would have thought even with one injector out, you should still get something....? maybe a diaphragm problem inside the pump? try Colchester injector services, very helpful if your head hurts and there's no wall left to hit it on........

Quick update. Checked for leaks - none. Intake all clear. Exhaust all clear. When I said it doesn’t rev, I mean just that, not even a glimmer of difference. As Wlshpug suggested, something in the pump must be stuck, but goodness knows what. I’m getting to the end of my abilities here !

Has it got a primer bulb on it? Make sure it's not sucked closed.

Let it run and warm up, it might be that something is a bit stuck or clogged up. Running it might dissolve it, especially if you put some cleaner in the fuel.
My friend had the same problem and it gradually became better the longer it ran.
