So the S type drove faultlessly all
Over our holiday and surprisingly my wife admitted it’s a lovely old car, she normally hates my cars so I’ll take that !!!
Unfortunately yesterday I went to use the drivers electric window and I heard a horrible crunching sound and the window dropped into the door
Last night i took the panel off and found the remnants of the plastic lugs which the window sits on
I’ve secured the window up with quickly fashioned piece of wood for now
I’m going to change the complete motor as a Jaguar specialist this morning told me not to waste time with a repair kit they don’t last, a second hand unit is around 40 quid so I’ll get one ordered via eBay this weekend
Also I’ve got a rumbling rear wheel bearing I’ve got the parts but this is a job for my pal’s garage I think

Tbh I’m still loving the Jaguar and it’s a keeper for the work commute I bought it at a silly price so spending money on repairs and small niggles really isn’t a problem
After all that’s why I buy old cars, I like the chase getting parts and then skinning knuckles and the odd swear word thrown in!!!

Front springs out again I'm not happy with the HR springs
I bought ones for an estate model thinking they’d be fine for the weight of the V6,but they seem to have compressed more over the last few weeks
New 40mm lowered prosport ones on the way

Unfortunately Charles Trent didn’t have an early model window mechanism for the S type so the hunt is on, they have assured me a refund will be sent once the wrong one arrives back with them, good service Tbf

The Mercedes now has new front springs it’s raised her up 20mm at the front and I’m much happier with how she’s drives now , plans are to use her all the summer then it’ll be off to my lifetime painter friend for some fettling……there could be another modern classic joint the fleet soon if negotiations go well…..

Dan, if you change the exhaust on this car you are making a mistake, at that point you may as well break out the matt black paint

Noisy, attention seeking exhausts should be reserved for Fords and 1 litre Korean origin cars, and of course Corsa drivers wanting to be noticed.

My vote is a resounding No, and in place of that, I suggest a pine fresh air freshener from the mirror.

Your car has all the class you claim to like….. keep it that way, it really is perfect as it is.

So this week started with the absolutely terrible passing of my mum, just so hard to take as my dad had just had a major operation and at 85 we feared the worst
He came through it and we all had thought they had a good few years together after over 60 years of marriage
Unfortunately my dear mum contracted gastroenteritis leading to pneumonia and passed away on Tuesday
Sad sad times and now myself and my sister and family are focusing on looking after my dad……….I guess some people woyld just sit back from there hobbies and say I just can’t be bothered
But doing the car stuff has helped me this week during the early evenings just polishing , tinkering etc
The S type now has a fully working electric window , parts sourced and fitted with my mate and neighbour Kev
And both cars had a good wax , and also done Kev’s Nissan truck
Trying to keep my mind in other things
And keep strong for our dad 👍
