So, I had always fancied an 80 as my dad's friend had one when I was younger, many years later I had bought a house with my partner and I never had had one and pretty much forgot all bout them! For the record I'm not a massive German car fan usually! I kept seeing this car parked on the side of the roadside in the village with a modern Audi and thought it was worth putting a note through the door. It has always been moted and taxed the last five years I have seen it until lockdown when the most lapsed and then it disappeared! I thought nevermind, I tried! Six months later, the owner rang me to ask if I was interested, and that it was at a local garage if I was interested. I went and took a look and I must admit it was worse than I thought! The garage owner explained the owner didn't use the car and only kept it for sentimental reasons, but it wasn't worth him fixing it for it to sit unused for a year again till the mot ran out again. He explained that there was a fuel pump wiring issue and running on maybe 3 cylinders and that it was in his way and he told the owner it needed to go so, I made an offer and bought it!

Yes, but you need to go into desktop mode to do it and the way to do that hides ride at the bottom of the screen (on iPhone anyway).
Nice cars. I had one of the first B3 90s in black with the 2.2L “KV” engine. Loved it. Not big bhp on paper (136 iirc) but strong, willing horses that sing a nice tune while they work. I put nearly 100k on mine and it had done near 200k by the time I sold it. Not much went wrong. Wishbone bushes are a favourite snack for them and front subframe mounting bushes. Looks like yours may be lowered already - good for handling- not so much for ride.
If it’s a K-Jet car then running on 3 is most likely it objecting to being sat around. Although it’s looks daunting it’s actually fairly simple.
Will watch with interest 🙂

I have a pair of new lower arms in the boot to fit as well as track rod ends, ball joints, rear shocks etc! As I bought it it was 100% original, exhaust, rear shocks, everything looks to be OE Audi, the previous owner has owned it since new and I do have lots of paperwork to show it being loved so that's a good start! It did have a rotten resonator just after the downpipe which I bypassed for the MOT, and it does sound good as it is when you give it some! Cheers for the picture advice, have one of it clean somewhere!

And with a quick job of removing the rear door dent! Unfortunately the paint is a little tired in places!

Looks pretty decent in the pics at least. Paint is over 30 years old so, if original has a right to be tired!
Is it fairly low mileage then? I found mine appreciated a pot of injector cleaner a couple of times a year and when that stopped having the desired effect I treated to a new set of injectors, which transformed it. They respond very well to triple (or quad) electrode plugs too (actually OE on them). I also unplugged the cold start injector as it seemed to leak for a while after each time it was fired. Didn’t affect cold start.

I did put some fuel system cleaner in it when we drained the fuel and put fresh in, it has roughly 160k miles, the odometer doesn't work and has shown 155,953 for about 8years! It does have a very comprehensive service history though, aside from an intermittent noisy tappet, it sounds sweet enough!

Nigel I don't think I will got too mental with it, I have grown quite attached to it as it is, I have already done complete new ignition system (old dizzy with new hall sender) And some general service items Current list is Front control arms, ball joints, track rod ends, rear shocks, lowering springs. Fix headlining, door fabric, fix dash computer and interior lights, then try and rectify the paint a little As the old wheels need a refurb and they rear tyres were ancient, I acquired an unusual set which I blacked the centres of, which I like and has filled the arches a little better!

I always rather liked the original wheels - also available in 15” from the 20v. But also partial to a bit of dish.
At that mileage it might well benefit from a set of injectors. Mine used to start fine even at sub-zero temperatures with the cold start unplugged. There is also the cold control regulator down on the side of the block which controls the pressure to the metering unit plunger.
I did change all 10 hydraulic tappets at about 130k as several of them used to clatter horribly for the first 10 minutes from cold.
