EXTERIOR
Synonymous with the pinnacle era of legendary Mercedes-Benz build quality, the craftsmanship displayed with this W123 200 is demonstrated throughout. Finished in Orient Red, (Code 501H), the paintwork is uniform throughout and boasts a stunning glossy finish. All beautifully made trim sections, high quality chrome and lights are preserved and bright. The rubber inserts to doors and bumpers are undamaged with no cuts and there is a small blemish to the bonnet corner. Having covered just 34,486 miles from new and garage stored, this iconic W123 is sure to appeal to many classic car enthusiasts.
INTERIOR
Plenty of space to seat five people in complete comfort the anatomically contoured seats upholstered in original Cream Fabric with Leather bolsters provide relaxation to make motoring a pleasure. A complete view of all four corners thanks to a large glass area and high seating position enables complete confidence in all driving conditions. The deep pile carpets are pristine having been protected by genuine Mercedes rubber floor mats front and rear and the headlining and all interior trim sections are beautifully preserved. The manual window winders are marked slightly and there is a nick to the drivers outer bolster. The fascia is perfect and all the gauges, controls and electrics operate exactly as they should including the stereo radio cassette. The boot area has the factory supplied warning triangle and again is spotless. The ultimate in common sense.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The sturdy and reliable 2.0 litre four-cylinder Mercedes engine was the choice for high mileage users with low running costs and extended service intervals, fortunately this is not the case with this example having covered just 34,486 miles! 94bhp is quoted and is delivered in a flexible smooth manor up to a top speed of 99mph. The engine bay is entirely standard with factory stickers, plates and panel stampings preserved and showing some natural aging. Even the delicate and usually perished rocker cover label and radiator cowling stickers remain intact! The baulk-ring synchromesh four-speed gearbox with self-adjusting diaphragm spring clutch is light and positive.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The beautiful classic colour coded 12-hole metal/chrome hubcaps are stunning with a few markings and shod in premium matching Continental 175/70 R14 tyres with ample tread. The spare wheel remains shod in the factory Michelin item which is stored alongside the original jack. Dual-circuit power-assisted brakes feature discs all round and perform very well.
HISTORY FILE
A fascinating history. Registered on the 2nd October 1980 and fanatically owned by Francis Rossiter Derwant Ucha from 1985 until 2015. With two scholarships and graduating at the Faculty of Engineering at Liverpool University in 1947, Mr Ucha was conscripted for two years National Service in The Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) providing engineering support and responsibility for maintaining and repairing the Army's vehicles. With this background and passion, no one was allowed to touch his pride and joy with upkeep exclusively his responsibility. In March 1991 Mr Ucha booked his vehicle into Drayton Mercedes-Benz main dealers for an inspection where they conclude with a speedo reading of 24,250 and on letter headed paper by the Director and General Manager, Chris Hughes that, ‘the vehicle was in as new condition’. The car moved with him for 30 years with various professional job roles and only used in perfect dry conditions for Sunday best and strictly garaged at all other times. This history is recalled in a six page hand written letter when the car was sold to the next custodian, Mr Terry Lacey.
Two original Mercedes keys are present along with a sales brochure and complement a file of historic MOT certificates, invoices, Mercedes-Benz Club literature and Agreed Valuation Certificates with the last in 2017 when the car was valued at £9000. A six-digit private registration plate remains on the car. A fabulous example.
MOT March 2023, HPI clear.
