I am considering swapping out my 3.0 Essex scimitar lump for something more modern I quite fancy the jag 3.0 duratec V^ with 240bhp, I have the opportunity however to obtain a cougar with a 2.5 V6 Duratec locally for nowt. I was thinking I could use the 2.5 as a lump to make fit and then swap out for the 3.0 once it is all fixed up and I know it will work. Does anyone know if the 2.5 v6 and 3.0 v6 duratec engines are dimensionally identical with engine mounts etc lining up?

Never had one side by side at the same time but as far as I'm aware they're physically identical, mounting points etc are definitely the same.

They are both the same externally, they are a cracking motor with a lightened flywheel. Designed by Porsche initailly then finished by Cosworth.

Never driven the 3.0 version but always found the 2.5 a relatively "lazy" motor in the 2 Mk3 mondeos I drove. Equally though, good call to replace the old Essex lump with a more modern upgrade ideal for cruising.

I'm favouring a Jag V6 swap for my Scimitar, if I ever get around to doing something with it. Any thoughts on engine management? I was assuming I'd have to go standalone rather than make the jag ECU work.

I think so yes, the 2.5 will essentially be a test bed they only have 170bhp so once I can sort out all the issues the 3.0 should slip right in

I thought to get a hold of a donor can and simply unpick the loom until left with what’s necessary to allow the engine to run, tidy up and transplant into the scimmy

I really want to do the minimum of mods to the body so I can revert to standard trim if necessary in the future

Cougar will probably run on a cut down loom, not sure about the 3.0 but would have thought it may be able to be run the same way. Late transit boxes use the Duratec bolt pattern or I think adaptor plate are available to go to the MT75 pattern.

Rocketeer do conversions with the v6 into a mx5, might be a good place to start for advice and parts www.rocketeercars.com/Ttfn Glenn
