Hey Guys, I took the plunge about 16 months ago and bought a scissor lift off the guys at BGE (Budget Garage Equipment). It was delivered and I set it up and I have to say I have been very impressed. Ive had loads on it from my 997, Datsun, Supras and even a Hyundai Terracan at one stage. I had a couple of issues at the start in regards to getting it to lift things but I was quickly helped using the mobile number they provide. The guys have honestly been brilliant with it. Recently I started having a few issues and they sent someone to inspect it just a couple of days after I reported it. Theyve agreed to replace the part thats broken (due to a fault in manufacturing) FOC. After 16 months Id say this is pretty exceptional service. I honesty cant fault them. If anyone is looking for a brilliant scissor Id recommend them!

Ah, I thought it might have been one of those. I was thrown off by the word "budget" as I was looking at them around half that price, albeit with a manual wind-up mechanism rather than hydraulic. It sounds like a pain, but I'm not sure I'd be lifting and dropping the car often enough for the extra cost.

Can you do an exhaust, brake lines or underside welding using one of these scissor lifts? It looks the part but underfloor access always makes me think

Can you do an exhaust, brake lines or underside welding using one of these scissor lifts? It looks the part but underfloor access always makes me think It comes with chocks so you can get the car about 6 or 8" above the central area. It can be a help then as you can slide stuff in and let it lay on it. It does inhibit access to that area for welding etc though

We've got one of these and very happy with it: strongmanlifts.co.uk/product/clifton-scissor-lift/Got it on a deal at the Practical Classics Restoration show. It's damn heavy but comes with a kit of wheels so you can roll it around. Reassuringly sturdy.

It looks the part but underfloor access always makes me think I was given something similar many years ago and it wasn't possible to do anything on the lift that required access to the centre of the car like exhausts or welding.
I gave it back in the end because it took so long to get the car loaded onto it that it was unsually quicker to jack it up and put it on stands.

Thanks for posting this, it's one of the things I've wondered. Since most of the time I need to lift a car high is to do gearbox etc work, I'd been thinking about how you'd manage. Looks like I'm still going for a 2 post lift then...

QuickJacks leaves the center area open but you still have the space between the wheels enclosed which makes it tough slide into base. This is mine, nice because I hang them on the wall when not in use
