Have had this one a few years now. A lowish mileage car at 50,000 ish. The original 1118cc engine had given problems with a few previous owners in the SIMCA Club. It eventually went to Kev, my brother who stripped the engine down to investigate a loud screeching sound. He discovered some of the cam followers had virtually seized in the block, a problem we've never had on loads of other SIMCAs we've run. In the UK we never got the 1294cc twin Weber DCNF carbed version of the SIMCA 1100, SIMCA Spain went one better with a 1442 engine back then.
We had a twin carb 1442 engine from A MATRA Bagheera we'd broken for spares so that went in after new rings, bearings but with a bit extra from a race cam that I'd used in an oval racing 1100. The 1442 Alpine/Bagheera/Rancho engine is a direct bolt in transplant to the 4 speed box. I've run it for a few years like that but It's been parked up for most of last year as I've got all the other SIMCAs to keep me busy. Current job is a general recommissioning.
