Modern advice needed please.
Sally is needing to buy another car to replace her 100k plus miles 1400cc 2013 Vauxhall Corsa.
We buy Anycrap offer is £1500
She is fixated on a Ford Fiesta 1.25 3 door or 5 door Zetec
BUT……….
She also likes Suzuki Swifts.
An 18-plate 1.0 liter Boosterjet SZ-T with around 22k miles is £8900
A 16-plate 1.25 Fiesta Zetec with 18k miles is £8400
So the question for those who either own(ed) or pay to maintain either of these cars…….
What are the big warnings, like, dislike etc.
Thanks guys.

A mate of mine has a Fiesta 1.25 at the same age as that.
He's had no issues. I'll double check however, as he plans to give that car to his daughter. I think the rear dampers may have gone on it, and the discs may have seized onto the hubs, but I'll check. Nothing much different to other cars.

Mrs Crockpot has a 19 plate Swift Sport. It's only done 10k, paid £13,000 as an ex-demonstrator. No issues at all, does 50mpg at 70 (just been to Whitby for 4 days, set cruise on the A1). It handles great and is a cracking drive. Shame it's hers not mine.

This is great to hear guys.
I like them, but we know there is a huge difference between liking and living with a car.
Her budget is topped out at £9k though, so something a touch older and 1.0 liter or 1.2 which I think exists as well.
95% of her driving is commuting less than 20 miles each way daily.
So these things should work for her, as long as reliable.
She also managed to hit a dead badger on the way to work in her 13 plate Corsa yesterday morning at 05.00 as there was oncoming traffic.
It has mangled the underside a bit, and the exhaust now growls.
Typical.

Mrs Tofufi has a 13-plate Mazda 2, which is a Ford Fiesta underneath. No mechanical issues to report, other than a persistent creak coming from the clutch pedal despite copious amounts of lubrication.

If you are going with the 1.25 Fiesta they are pretty much bullet proof. Ecoboost not so much.
My son ran a 16 plate Fiesta for 2 years and did 27K in it commuting to work - didn't miss a beat.
My wife had a 19 plate Fiesta Ecoboost - Lovely car to drive but wasn't that good on petrol.
My 04 Super Fiesta (tm) has just done 210K - From an engine stand point has had a clutch and an02 sensor - gets thrashed everywhere it goes and still manages 40mpg +
Cant comment on the Swift but I wouldn't hesitate to have another one.

This sounds like my work mate who replaced a perfectly good Volvo as "it was beginning to cost money" ie 200 quid to service, repair, sort out etc . . .
So he saved that 200 quid by spending 10 grand on a Mini . . . I did point out the £9800 would have paid for a lot of 200 quids . . .
What's up with the Corsa - better the devil you know and all that . . . or, like many of us, is simply a change needed?

But likes Suzuki Engine replaced 20k back, car at 110k miles, Hit a dead adult badger yesterday 05.00 as oncoming traffic forced her to keep to lane. Underside bent, manifold growling.

If I had the choice I'd be looking at the Suzuki. My late friend Tracey had a Swift Sport and it was super reliable, minimal cost of servicing and an absolute hoot to drive.
There's more choice with the Fiestas, and you'd be unlikely to get a bad one unless you were unlucky. However, we have them as pool cars at work and they're not great vehicles - they are simply transport to me. Plus the Fiesta that drove into my SLK folded like a soggy cardboard box in a fairly slow speed crash. They may be cheap to repair but they're also built down to a price. I also don't like the visibility out of the back.
All I can suggest is to test drive both - it may come down to things like preferring the driving position of one over the other, or the looks or the visibility. Try and find a dealer with both.

I have, in as many years as I've been building engines and working in a garage doing general garage stuff, never seen a Suzuki Swift need more than usual wearable items to be replaced.
That been said 1.25 Fiestas aren't common for problems either.

We've got a 2018 Swift 1.2 at our villa in Cyprus, it's a brilliant little car. It's 92bhp and does 55mpg all day long in >40°C heat with the a/c blazing. Not had to replace anything yet and it gets used by all and sundry who go out there.

Thank you gents.
@stealthstyles I know you call a spade a fkn shovel, so if it sucks, you would be the one guy to highlight it.
It sounds like the Suzuki gets a good rep everywhere that I have posted the original question.
NEXT QUESTION
WE BUY ANY CAR…………
WHAT OTHER COMPANIES ARE OUT THERE THAT WILL BUY A CAR, COLLECT IT AND LEAVE YOU WITH CASH IN HAND?
Thanks.

just to add to the suzuki decision . . .
Other half has a 15 plate Fiesta. I've known her nearly 3 years. Right at the beginning of that, she needed an offside front spring replacing . . .
Last year a nearside rear . . .
And just now, the nearside front . . .
She's not exactly hard on the car in driving, doesn't seek out pot-holes, doesn't smack it up and down kerbs and only does a mile or two to train station and back - and of course, in the last couple of years, not much of that as working from home or furloughed . . .

Regarding the WBAC thing, it's still worth getting a quote from a dealer on part-ex just for the ease of it. Good deals can be had. It's worth getting a quote from WBAC and similar places and then getting the dealer to match it. They also won't quibble about scratches here and there and there isn't likely to be a fee to sort this. You just sign the car over to trade and that is it.
Of course it's totally different if you're buying privately, but 2 of the last 3 dailies I've sold have been dropped through the trade at a dealers. Granted they weren't worth big money but it saved me having idiot tyre kickers wanting a test drive without proof of insurance, then trying to get it at half the asking price. You might take a small hit on your asking price, but at that end of the market it probably won't be much if it's a small indy dealer. Big dealers would obviously be a different matter as they're target driven.

Mrs WW, is on her third Swift, currently a 2016 1.2 (N/A 4 pot). She liked the Fiesta very much and wanted one instead of another Swift. When all was said and done she reckoned the better value car was the Swift. Oh, and it's doing 60+ mpg. She's happy, therefore I think the Swift is greatest car ever!

And then go and tell the dealer what price you got and let them bid for the car. I am now replacing my wife’s daily every 9-12 months simply because I am making money by doing exactly this. The last one, even including the finance over that period I made £800 over the price I paid the previous year. Not a one off either. Dealers are desperate for stock use that to your advantage. P. Edited as I out the wrong number in.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
On the Suzuki front, any experience between the 1.0 and 1.2 to mention?
My gut feel is 1.2 but Sally seems interested in the 1.0 as she mostly commute’s
But it is an option of through town, or motorway.
20 miles each direction.
Opinions please, or experience.

They're the same family of engine so in theory should be equally reliable. The 1 litre 3 pot appears to be called a booster jet engine so I'd go for that one because it sounds cooler.

NEXT QUESTION WE BUY ANY CAR………… WHAT OTHER COMPANIES ARE OUT THERE THAT WILL BUY A CAR, COLLECT IT AND LEAVE YOU WITH CASH IN HAND? Thanks. Based on nothing other than Ford quality, I would go for the swift as it will keep working & parts will last longer than the warranty. I'm not a Ford fan at all, they cheap out on EVERYTHING regardless of how expensive/cheap the car is. The Mustangs battery failed at 3 years/12k miles! My golf one started to fail at 12 years/160k and was actually much bigger! The AA guy that came to jump start me wasnt impressed at the battery size Ford had used (50ah for a 5.0! BMW use a 100ah for the same size engine) Try some local dealers, I sold my Mustang to a local car specialist's & they gave me what WBAC offered with no bartering. They are strugling to get stock so can always offer the same/more that WBAC as they will end up buying it at auction from WBAC anyway.
