I left enough space between the center two vents for the radio ( cant go any lower on the dash because of the AC unit ) Tack welded in & test fit. And checking the clearances with the AC unit in.

Lovely work as usual, nice A/C is the difference between a beater and a comfortable daily in my head. Wince a bit when the first thing people do is the A/C delete as it makes the world a better place sat in that traffic jam in the summer. James

With the AC unit, the hoses, tubes, etc. behind the dash, there was not going to be any space for a glovebox or a ashtray. So I cut away all the mounting points for them. And I made a panel to the shape of the glovebox door and ashtray ( gradually different from left to right...) Tack welded in. More later...

Thanks jamesd1972 . Yeah, I never had AC (or heat) in this truck. But being a black truck in Arizona, it will be nice to have...

Very neat! Looks like you could almost get away with a flat floor.

Thanks. Stock, it had a flat floor. But I had to put a little tunnel in because I lowered it so much, and I had to move the engine & gearbox up a bit for clearance.

About that last vid.. That is some time ago, and I've steadily been dialing it in ( before and since that vid ) As you can see, a careful toe on the throttle pedal gave instant snap oversteer, so I'm guessing I had the "big" engine in it at the time. Which is a all aluminum racing engine, 400 cubic inch - 6.6 litre ( the block is from Donovan ) based on the small block Chevy, with Brodix heads It was once used in a outlaw sprint car ( random pic off the net ), where it had become illegal when they switched the rules back to iron blocks. It got it as a used short block, with a steel bottom end and forged pistons. I lowered the compression ratio to switch it from alcohol to gas ( petrol to you guys... ), and detuned it a lot for torque and reliability ( down to about 515Hp ) It has quad 48IDA Webers, and a 180 deg exhaust system. Since that vid I've made a lot of progress in how it delivers its power ( completely redid the throttle linkage into a 2 stage system that gives a lot of pedal movement for the first 1/2 of the throttle opening, after which it snaps open for the last bit of pedal movement). Which made a big difference in how I could get on the throttle at corner exit . I've made big improvements in the corner entry understeer too, but there is still more room for improvement there. ( it has gotten power steering, a quick rack, and modified geometry for corrected rollcenter with no bumpsteer) A big improvement was getting rid of the Super T10 4 speed. I got it out of a big block Pontiac Trans Am, and it was fine on the street. But on the track, trying to shift quickly, it felt like it belonged in a dump truck. It was fragile too, I'm about 3 rebuilds in... I replaced it with a straight cut close ratio Jerico dog box, which does lightning quick shifts ( clutchless even, if you're not paying the bills...), and can handle a lot more torque. I went through several different clutches/ flywheels/ throwout bearings/ bellhousings ( including a 3 plate Tilton ), untill I settled on a 10.5" aluminum flywheel with a regular "street" friction plate. Basically upgraded street/strip Big Block stuff.... Its a fun car... More info here. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/197559/1973-capri-v8

Excellent job! Tack welded in & test fit. Just in case You want to replace that modern looking radio at some point: look out for this one, I can really recommend it, it can handle a lot of sources except cds and sounds quite good. Best thing is, You can get it really cheap, I paid 16€ incl. postage, but some sources sell it for 50€s.

Thanks, but that radio has a story. It was a birthday present from my wife, many years ago. I never got around to putting it into the truck, which annoyed her. And then, in time, it sort of became a running joke. But now it finally it will have its day...

Thankful for the updates others are doing right now.
