Hopefully someone on here can help me out, recently within the last 6 months I purchased a e32 bmw 735i. Which I was going to use as a doner car, but after looking over the car realised it was to good of an example to break. I didn't pay large amount of money for it, so one principal thing I usually check is the Mot history before purchase, which I ignored at the time as I couldn't find any.
Let me be clear this bmw 735i didn't have any recorded mot's on the dvla website, this might be because its on a private plate this was my first thought when I purchased the car, but I did a full car check which came back with no plate transfers?
How can a car registerd in June 1987 not have a single mot recorded, its not an export or anything like that. I'm a little baffled by the whole situation, I did contact the previous owner today about where he got it from but he's yet to get back to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

MOT's only started to be recorded digitally in 2005 so any prior to that will not show on the system. If it doesn't show any post-05 it's never had one since 05.

If it's been tested on a private plate it won't show on the original when searched.

If it's been tested on a private plate it won't show on the original when searched. Does that mean the MOT history for a private plate could show any number of cars tested, assuming the plate is transferred each time the vehicle is changed?

I don't think that's the case. I just checked my mate's private plate, which he's had on various cars going back decades, and on the check-mot site it only shows the MOTs for the vehicle it's currently on. I can't see a way to check the MOT history on the vehicle it was on before this one.

If it's been tested on a private plate it won't show on the original when searched. It will. Doesn’t work like that. It’ll show all recorded MOT test outcomes for the vehicle regardless of what registration was on it at the time of test, because the plate changes are logged with the DVLA.

Also, no. Just the car it’s currently applied to. If I search NE57SKU for example as my fathers plate, it comes up with no current MOT log as the car it’s on hasn’t had one yet. I’d certainly doesn’t show the previous cars it was on because it isn’t on them.

The private plate on my ranger only shows 3 mots, it's 10 years old. The original plate shows all the mots until the private plate went on.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you have a logbook and it shows up on the DVLA reg checker thing. It could have been kept abroad and they've not bothered to tax/ test it over there just bringing it back with leaving the EU?
