I have had a secret desire to own a Kei type mini truck for some time and one has finally come my way at very little money so though I 'd try document the build progress on this here fine forum! It's going to take some time and in all honesty, won't really begin until summer as I don't like crawling around in crappy dank weather and there are a few other jobs need doing first(see happy wife, happy life) The little thing is a 1998 1.3 Hijet pickup which was last on the road over 8 years ago and despite it's sad state, only has 68000 miles on the clock. As is clear, it needs loads of tlc but it does run although it does have the overheating demon many of these engines suffered from. Plans?? Still swimming in my head but have decided that the rear sides & tailgate will not be going back on so possibly a nice wood floored trayback instead.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

Welcome to the Hijet massiv πππ
Rust, rounded and snapped bolts await you.
My overheating issue was down to a busted expansion tank cap that wouldn't seal.
They're also a curse word to bleed if you change the coolant & thermostat as I found out...many hoses needed to be massaged and burped and litres of coolant bled out.
Head gaskets go pretty regularly too, but I'm told they're not too devastating to replace.
Your 1.3 is a totally different lump to my 1.0 engine, but I'll be watching with interest π

In the meantime, I'll get my plumbers torch refilled and plenty cans of lube ordered!
