Just been checking the cars in here, keep in mind that South Africa is a "dry state" with no salt on roads, and very gentle winters. So importing from there makes some sense, ask the guys who have done so in the past. These guys like to help, check the website for stocklists and updates. They have some decent car's, prices don't seem to bad either. Very cool pics/thread

Interesting thread, especially since I'll be going to SA for a month in the summer Would that be your summer or theirs? Remember the seasons are back to front there, with summer being over November to March/April.

Wow, just read this thread from start to finish (when i should have been working), top photo's!
My Dad lived in SA for about 16 years, so i had a few long summer holidays there when i was a kid. I think he originally lived in Kempton Park near Johannesburg 9went there in 81), then the next time i went he lived in Umhlanga Rocks near Durban (there in 84) then the last time i went there he was back living at some place between Johannesburg and Pretoria (can't remember the same of the place)
I can remember the first time i went there my dad had one of those Austin 1100 things that have Triumph-esque front and back ends on them (can't remember the same of them for the life of me...?).
The last time i went there was in late 1989, i was 15 at the time. I remember a lot of different cars that were about at the time, my dad had a Cortina "Bakkie" pick-up, sadly with only a 2.0 engine as a lot of the Cortina's over there seem to have 3.0 V6's (seem to remember there being such a thing as the Cortina XR6 too).
I can remember the rule on cars only needing MOT-ing when they change owners, but did they also used to have a government 3rd party insurance system too? i.e. you didn't need to get seperate insurance unless you wanted fire & theft or fully comp?? Might be my mind playing tricks on me.
Sadly my Dad lives in Poland now, but i've always wanted to go back to SA for a holiday as i loved the times i did spend there.

That sounds about right. There was a car insurance advert with one of these in not that long ago, where a car crashes into some other cars, one of which being an Austin Apache.

I don't get the pickup tow trucks thing - are they not legal or something - is that why they are hiding the towing parts? Sounds mental out there!
