Okay guys, I'm pondering a 450 mile round trip for something pretty unique, special and retro - but I have to admit it's giving me a wee bit of fear. The furthest I've gone was about 300 miles around - got met at Bristol train station in a Mk1 Golf that I bought from here many moons ago. The seats were bare horsehair, and despite being automatic she kept stalling at junctions and roundabouts. This is definitely not what she looked like but you get the idea Got it back and had it MOT'd a week later...3 pages of fails 🤣 Scrapped it a few days later 😂😂😂 So, go on then...convince me that 450 miles is like popping to the shops for a pint of milk...

Just work on the basis that the car will probably be twice as bad as the seller says it is. But it’s a day out 😀

I've done Chester to Inverness before, and Chester to Newcastle a few times. Get plenty of pics and a video before you go, but be willing to walk away even if the distance is great.

well furthest travel with car and trailer was to Sicily (ca. 1.800km), to buy a classic Ford, but have been a few times to France as well, even once to Spain, but for this journey i took a plane, so i don t think that counts?

Bought my Boxster from near Lancaster, 200+ miles each way. Went up on the train , got a great deal on first class tickets and stayed at a nice hotel in Lancaster (wife decided it was our road trip ) and the guy picked me up to collect the car from his house.

G15 - Croydon - from north Shropshire - Round trip - 412 miles
G15 - Dover - from North Shropshire - Round trip - 500 miles
G15 - Eye - from North Shropshire - Round trip - 410 miles. 820 miles as I went to view it first.

G15s x 2 - Milton Keynes - from North Shropshire Round trip - 250 miles. 1250 miles as it took 5 trips.
Gemini - I think somewhere near stains - From North Shropshire Round trip - 340 miles.
Gemini - Caernarfon - From North Shropshire - Round trip 180 Mile. 360 Miles as went to view first.
Strato's was a double trip to Stewartby to view and to collect so that was 500 miles

A total of 5,872 miles.
Something I want being local - that would make a change.

Stenenage-outwell-harrogate and return for my RRC 15 years ago, with a mate in a 110, towing an 18 foot trailer, since said rangie had no engine or gearbox Oh and the mate had never towed anything in his life before, so he did 300 miles for me 😁 He's good at towing now ....

For a car? About 35 miles. For a motorbike? About 15 miles.

Technically, I travelled 6000 miles to buy this... However, I was working overseas in Tokyo when I bid to buy it on eBay (without having seen it first), and it was actually less than 5 miles from my house. Furthest I've travelled to see a car was this: My W126 560SEL, it was a 1000 mile round trip to go and see it. It wasn't roadworthy (off the road for 15 years) so had to get it transported back. I have done a few longer trips like Midlands to Devon etc but the only one that I did in a ropey car was Newcastle upon Tyne to collect a mini I had bought on ebay. What a pile of a tat it was, not rusty just badly put together by a non mini person. It broke down in Rotherham with carb issues and I got the AA out to it who dragged it the rest of the way. This was 20 years ago and I always hire a trailer now for such trips as it only costs the same kind of money as temp insurance cover and a month's tax and you have more confidence in making home.

Sod all that. Some really good thorough walk round videos, a video call with the owner and that gives me everything I need to know to just send my truck man. I’m too busy for all that these days. I bought my bus without even seeing it like that, and it’s perfect…. Well perfect for me anyway.

...a 300 mile round trip for a car that was considerably more s**t than I had expected it to be. The drive home was interesting, nursing it through the Dartford tunnel traffic queues with the temperature gauge reading DANGER and an exhaust that blew louder and louder, threatening to depart on the M11, as I tried to nurse it home. No, it wasn't fun and it has made me very reluctant to go on another road trip.

Another man who has his garage carpeted!! Can't beat a bit of carpet, eh! I had carpet tiles in my old garage... new garage had a load of boxes left in it at the back when we moved in a few months back. Further investigation shows they are full of mahogany and teak floor blocks (which the house has in its hallway), so guess I'm going to have a very swanky garage floor now

Round trip of 430 miles to pick up this: and drive it back. And when I was younger and more foolish, I drove from Surrey to Lincolnshire with a trailer on the back of my SAAB 9000 to pick up this: and a parts car in one day - no two Sunbeam Rapiers won't fit on one trailer at the same time!
